Highlights
  • Cairo Citadel - Starts at 10:00 am. Pickup from your hotel by our tour guide and transfer to the Citadel of Salah El Din in Cairo, where you will visit the Mohamed Ali Mosque, considered one of the most beautiful mosques in Cairo. It is also known as the Alabaster Mosque because its outer walls are covered with alabaster stone.
  • Al Rifai Mosque - Followed by a visit to the famous Al-Rifa’i Mosque, located opposite the Mosque-Madrassa of Sultan Hassan, which dates back to around 1361. This mosque was part of a 19th-century campaign by Egypt’s rulers to associate themselves with the glory of earlier periods in Egypt’s Islamic history and to modernize the city.
  • Mosque and Madrasa of Sultan Hassan - Next, visit the grand El Sultan Hassan Mosque, also known as Madrasa El Sultan Hassan, founded by Sultan Hassan in 1356 A.D. This massive Mamluk-era mosque and madrassa, located near The Citadel in Cairo, was constructed between 757 AH/1356 CE and completed three years later. At the time, it was remarkable for its size and innovative architectural features. The mosque was designed to include schools for all four Sunni schools of thought: Shafi’i, Maliki, Hanafi, and Hanbali.
  • Al-Azhar Mosque - Then drive to Al-Azhar Mosque in Cairo, also known as the mosque of the most resplendent. Commissioned by Al-Mu’izz li-Din Allah of the Fatimid Caliphate in 970 for the newly established capital city, its name is thought to allude to Fatimah, the daughter of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. It was the first mosque established in Cairo, a city now known as “the City of a Thousand Minarets.”
  • Al Emam El Hussein Mosque - End your day tour with a visit to El Hussein Mosque in Cairo, a revered mosque believed to be the burial site of the head of the prophet Muhammad’s grandson.
  • Khan Al-Khalili - Finally, visit Khan el Khalili. At the end of the tour, our guide will transfer you back to your hotel in Cairo.
  • Cairo - The tour concludes with a drop-off at your hotel in Cairo.

We had a driver only... - We had a driver only experience and, even then, the driver (mohammed) was very very informative and became our very knowlegable guide. He had a great attitude and punctuality was great! He is a true asset to your company.

Don’t miss Islamic Cairo - Essam’s knowledge of the history of Cairo - in this case Islamic Cairo - and his enthusiasm to share that knowledge made this a wonderful and highly recommended tour. I came back to Cairo to see and learn more about the city other than ancient Egypt and pyramids. And this tour was exactly what I hoped for. Plus I had my first taste of Egyptian koshari.
