The reserve has more than 6,000 rock engravings dating back between 5,000-40,000 years. The site also features the remains of inhabited caves, settlements and burials, all reflecting an intensive human use by the inhabitants of the area during the wet period that followed the last Ice Age.

Ateshgah, the Unique Fire Temple - stands as one of the most notable sights in Azerbaijan. Historical records indicate that prior to the 17th-century construction of the Indian Temple Of Fire in Surakhani, locals held this site in reverence due to the “seven flaming openings”.

Yanar Dag, or Fire Mountain - Yanar Dag is a perpetual natural gas fire on a hillside of the Absheron Peninsula, bordering the Caspian Sea, near Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku. The country is often referred to as ‘the Land of Fire’.

WOW! - You stand there and see your ancestors from tens of thousand of years ago lived and send some messages through the walls of their homes. It is amazing place with great history and view. Loved it, we enjoyed every minute of it and wanted to stay more because there are different drawings and shapes on each visible wall of rocks. Really exciting place.
