Highlights
  • Gobustan Rock Art - The Gobustan & Mud Volcanoes tour typically begins at 9:30 AM with guest pick-up from their location in Baku.

The interactive museum.
Here, you can explore numerous petroglyphs, the natural environment of Gobustan, its population, cultural evolution, and archaeological expeditions in the area. With touch screens and special 3D panoramas, the museum offers a glimpse into life 5,000-20,000 years ago. The museum’s rooms house a diverse collection of historical exhibits dating from around the 4th to 2nd millennium BC.

The open-air museum.
Next, our guide will lead you to the Gobustan rocks, where you can witness over 6,000 rock drawings and caves firsthand. Petroglyphs from various eras, discovered by scientists in the 1930s, provide insights into ancient people’s worldviews, customs, and traditions.

  • Mud Volcanoes - Mud Volcanoes.
Mud volcanoes emerged in what is now Azerbaijan 25 million years ago. Today, Azerbaijan has the highest number of mud volcanoes globally, with 350 out of the world’s 800 located here. The eruptions supply raw materials for the chemical and construction industries, as well as pharmacology. Additionally, volcanic clay and mud are currently used to treat nervous system, skin, and rheumatic diseases. Our guide will take you to active mud volcanoes, allowing you to climb and view the craters up close.

At the end of the tour, you will be dropped off at your location in Baku.

Awesome informative tour - First of all I came across Bag Baku only the night before the tour starts and I was so glad that the staff helped me book the tour at 11pm! The tour was very informative, and the pace was reasonable. The coach was also very comfortable and everything was well arranged. It was a great touring and learning experience. I highly recommend joining this tour!

Great Day Trip to see Petroglyphs and Mud Volcanes - My friend and I were traveling around Azerbaijan and took a tour with Jale. Jale's English was excellent making it easier to understand. She was extremely knowledgable. She brought a laser pointer to the petroglyphs so she could clearly point out things that were harder to see in the rocks. Our driver didn't speak any English but took excellent care of us. I highly recommend this tour and this tour group!

Great guide with great knowledge. - I've been using Bag Baku for almost 5 years now to do both group tours and the occasional private tour. Services and tours have always been really well-managed and the destinations awesome. My friends and I booked a half-day tour with Bag Baku this month to see the petroglyphs at Gobustan and the mud volcanoes. Our guide for the day, Valeh, picked us up from our accommodation very punctually. We were really lucky to have Valeh as our guide this time, as he's an archeologist and very passionate and knowledgable about the sites we visited that day. We spent of lot of time in the museum at Gobustan, which is really well put together, before heading up to the petroglyphs. Visiting the museum first adds a lot to your visit to the petroglyphs and gives them a lot more meaning. We learned a lot on this trip, enjoyed the sights and had a great lunch. The only thing that was disappointing was that the car provided was really small and too small for us to even sit comfortably across the back and there was the usual issue of having to have the driver pull over and pull down the back seats to get access to the seat belts.

Gobustan tour - Nice and informative guide, not expensive, overall good experience. Although I can say that it is something that you could do by yourself, just you would need a taxi ride, but the drive is part of the package so it’s worth it. Recommended!
