Shaki enjoys a picturesque setting amid the snow-clad heights of the Greater Caucasus, with some areas ascending to 3000–3600 m. The city’s climatic conditions are an amalgamation of cyclones and anticyclones, varied air masses, and characteristic local winds. Shaki sustains an average annual temperature of 12 °C, with a mild range between 20 and 25 °C during the months of June and August.
The surrounding mountain forests shield the city from potential floods and extreme summer heat. Shaki is traversed by two primary rivers, Kish and Gurjhana. During the Soviet era of Azerbaijan, people would often travel to Shaki to indulge in its esteemed mineral springs.
