Setting Sail on the Algarve Coast

As a travel writer and a mother of three, I am always on the lookout for family-friendly adventures that offer both fun and learning opportunities. Our recent trip to Quarteira, Portugal, was no exception. We embarked on the Algarve and Albufeira Cruise, a full-day sailing experience along the stunning Algarve coastline. The promise of exploring hidden beaches, sea caves, and picturesque fishing villages was too tempting to resist.

The day began with a warm welcome from the crew aboard a magnificent 34-meter sailboat. The ship, with its two masts and spacious deck, was a sight to behold. The crew prepared a sumptuous barbecue lunch on the beach, featuring chicken, pork, fish, and two kinds of vegetable salad. There were also plenty of drinks to choose from, including wine, fizzy drinks, and water. The fresh watermelon served as dessert was a refreshing treat. The crew’s hospitality was exceptional, as they offered seconds of everything and ensured our glasses were always full.

After lunch, we had some free time to explore the beach and take in the natural beauty. My children enjoyed building sandcastles and collecting seashells, while I took a leisurely stroll along the shore. It was a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure, and I couldn’t have asked for a better family outing.

A Memorable Return Journey

As we reboarded the ship, the crew offered an opportunity for those who wanted to swim in deeper waters. My eldest, always the adventurous one, eagerly jumped over the side for a swim, while the rest of us enjoyed the view from the deck. The return journey was just as enjoyable, with the ship sailing closer to the shore, offering us a different perspective of the coastline.

A photographer on board captured our memories, and while purchasing the photos was optional, I couldn’t resist buying a couple to commemorate the day. The entire experience was a wonderful blend of relaxation, exploration, and family bonding. The cruise was not only a visual feast but also a chance to connect with my children and create lasting memories.
