Along with Parliament Hill, Montcalm and Saint-Jean-Baptiste form the start of the Upper Town districts to the west of the old fortifications. Historically, Saint-Jean Baptiste was a bustling neighbourhood while Montcalm was favored by high society.

While remnants of their historical past remain, both districts have evolved into vibrant urban communities with a diverse mix of individuals. Montcalm has recrafted its image as the Arts District (Quartier des arts) over the recent years, with Saint-Jean Baptiste flourishing with small independent businesses such as chic fashion boutiques, a wonderful craft beer pub, and a remarkable coffee spot.
