Into the Heart of the Jungle

The sun was just beginning to rise over the lush landscape of Quebrada Amarilla as I found myself gearing up for a day of adventure that promised to be as thrilling as catching the perfect wave. The Jaco Jungle Adventure was calling, and I was ready to answer. With my trusty surfboard left behind for the day, I traded the ocean’s embrace for the dense canopy of the jungle, eager to explore the wonders that lay within.

Upon arrival at The Park at Ocean Ranch, the air was thick with anticipation. Our guide, Daniel, greeted us with a warm smile and a wealth of knowledge about the local flora and fauna. As a seasoned traveler, I’ve met my fair share of guides, but Daniel’s passion for the jungle was infectious. He pointed out a toucan perched high above, its vibrant colors a stark contrast against the verdant backdrop. As I zipped along, the wind in my hair, I couldn’t help but draw parallels to the feeling of gliding across a perfect wave. The freedom, the exhilaration, the connection to nature—it was all there.

Horseback Riding and ATV-ing: A Journey Through the Jungle

After a delicious lunch that included a taste of Costa Rican cuisine, we split into groups for the afternoon activities. My group began with horseback riding, a serene journey through the ranch led by Daniel and his trusty horse, Pinto. My horse, Charlie, was gentle and calm, a perfect match for my beginner status. As we trotted along, Daniel shared stories of the land and its inhabitants, his voice blending with the sounds of the jungle.

The final adventure of the day was ATV-ing, a muddy, exhilarating ride through the jungle trails. My friend and I opted for a double, and despite a few run-ins with trees, the experience was nothing short of thrilling. The staff’s lighthearted approach and willingness to capture our escapades on camera added to the fun, making it a memorable end to an incredible day.
