Yum and interesting! - This tour was an unexpected journey around the Americas and different parts of the world. Such fun learning about the different diasporas and experiencing their food. Esnider knows so much and was really good at gauging our hunger levels 😀 always a great experience with Culinary Backstreet Tours.

An unforgettable and truly fun culinary tour - We experienced and learned about more cuisines from the global south than I ever expected when my friend and I signed up for the Queens Corona tour during our weekend in NY. Our guide, Schneider, was the icing on the cake, giving us important perspective and insight into the neighborhoods we visited, with lots of humour thrown in. The group size was also perfect!

A revelation in Corona - I'd never been to Corona before, so this was a revelation. The trip was "only" five hours but the variety of cuisines we sampled was enough for five DAYS! Sierra is a superb guide: He personally knows all the bakeries, restaurants, pushcarts and vendors. As a former chef, he explained the characteristics of each different cuisine and culture. And he always made sure we had plenty of water and napkins! I'm looking forward to my next adventure with Culinary Backstreets!

Amazing Culinary Experience - I live in NY for more than 20 years & this was the first time I went to Corona. What an amazing culinary experience!! Sierra, our guide, is very knowledgeable and ordered the best samplers you can think of. Please have more areas to cover in different parts of NY. This is a great way to experience the city, even for locals!!

Outstanding tour and guide - Sierra was so warm and welcoming, in addition to being deeply knowledgeable! I have done a bunch of food tours and they were the best guide I've had. It made such a difference having a guide who's a chef. Really looking forward to booking more tours.

A long but rewarding day of noshing in Queens - My friend and I did the Culinary Delights tour of Corona and Jackson Heights (or more accurately the Americas and South Asia). In a word, fabulous. Our guide Sierra trained as a chef, has cooked in numerous restaurants and private chef gigs, and is extraordinarily knowledgeable about food migration, cultural history of foods, and food science. She brought all that know-how to bear on our 6.5 hour trek through two sub-neighborhoods of Queens. We were interested in learning about some new parts of New York City, and the tour did that, tracing the cultural, political and social evolution of these neighborhoods, as reflected in the foods. Where to start? Hand made tortillas stuffed with carnitas or squash blossom flowers; "Quaker"- an ecuadorian drink of passion fruit, quaker oats, sugar and water-great: empanadas and home made sausage from an Argentinian butcher; "cevichochos"-stew served on the front porch of a house; amazing onigirazu--Japanese rice ball sandwiches; beef dumplings-"momos"- from Bangladesh... Not my usual snack foods I've also done their tour in Istanbul and it was terrific. But this was just amazing.

Best Birthday Ever! - I cannot say enough great things about our experience! We live in Westchester and did a Queens tour. We love to taste authentic dishes while learning the history, cooking processes and cultures surrounding it. Knowing we would be challenged by the fast pace and language barriers of Queens, we decided to start with Culinary Backstreets. Our guide, Sienna, was perfect! Their language, culinary, energy and people skills never seized to amaze me. All of that translated into a treasure trove of learning experiences for us. We learned about the traditional foods, cooking techniques and culture of so many different countries. We met restaurant owners, chefs, and vendors that Sienna knew like neighbors. Sienna went above and beyond to answer every question we had while being so friendly and respectful of the people we encountered. They also quickly discovered the things that excited us most and adapted the trip accordingly. They even surprised my 15 year old son with a birthday treat! Also, I was so pleasantly surprised to find how accommodating Sienna was to all of our dietary and physical needs. We felt SO taken care of!! WHEN I book another tour, I will definitely ask for Sienna as a guide, but I have no doubt the other guides are held to the same standard. I would highly recommend Culinary Backstreets to anyone because of just how accommodating they are to your culinary wishes and fun to tour with!

An Exceptional Experience - We went on the Queens Corona tour and had a fantastic time! Our guide, Sierra, did an exceptional job of, not just introducing us to new foods and places, but being prepared to produce everything we could possibly need for the tour from the "magic pack"! Culinary backstreets tours get you off the beaten path and away from the tourist spots to introduce you to the people and places that really make up the city you are visiting. We ate some truly amazing food, but it was so much more than that. Sierra was a wealth of information and provided background on the history, politics and people that connect the food to the larger culture. This was our second CB tour and we will definitely be back for more!

Culinary Backstreets in Queens! 10/10! - Culinary Backstreet does it again! This is my 4th tour with this company and they never disappoint. Sierra was an excellent guide! I appreciate the attention to local, family owned business and the explanations of how the food plays a role in their culture. Queens is such a an incredible place to eat and experience NYC! 10/10 would do again!
