• Midhope Castle - Midhope Castle serves as Lallybroch, the ancestral residence of Jamie Fraser. In the first season of Outlander, Jamie and Claire make their home here. This 16th-century tower house represents Lallybroch (also known as Broch Tuarach) in the series. Inherited by Jamie from his parents, Brian and Ellen, Lallybroch is also the home of Jamie’s sister, Jenny, her husband Ian Murray, and their children. As Lallybroch plays a significant role in the Outlander narrative, Midhope Castle is prominently featured in season 7, set to air in June.

• Linlithgow Palace - Linlithgow Palace, depicted as Wentworth Prison, is included in castle tours by Private Tours Edinburgh. This royal pleasure palace, the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots, serves as the backdrop for some of the series’ most intense scenes. It is portrayed as Wentworth Prison, where the corridors and entrance were used in episode 15 of the first series, depicting Jamie Fraser’s brutal imprisonment by his nemesis, Black Jack Randall. Constructed by King James V in the 1400s, the now-ruined palace is nestled among the stunning surroundings of Linlithgow Loch and Peel. The tour allows up to an hour at each location.

• Doune Castle - Doune Castle, built in 1400, provides the setting for Castle Leoch in Outlander.
