Mayan Ruins and Lagoon - Our guide, Yoshi, was excellent. She was very personable and was able to answer all of our questions. Gave us a detailed information about the Mayan Ruins. We had to go to a different area of the Lagoon because of recent storms. It was a nice area with swimming, kayaking or just sitting in the pier with your feet/legs in the water. There were also many lounge chairs available. Lunch (4 tacos chicken or pork) were very good!! Also included 2 alcoholic beverages and unlimited soda/water. Water bottles were provided when requested on clean air conditioned van. Would rate this excursion 9/10.

We'd recommend the... - We'd recommend the dynamic duo of Eddar (our guide) and Edgar (our driver) to anyone! This was our first time booking an excursion through Viator, so we were a little nervous, but they were great communicators and put our minds at ease. Once we made it out of the maze that is the Port of Costa Maya, it was easy to find the meetup location. They provided a map and detailed directions, so I felt really supported. The van fits about 20 people, so it's a more intimate experience than the cruiseline buses that seat 80-90. We left right on time and the ride to the first location was about 60 minutes. We first went to the ruins and were the first bus of the day there, meaning we got to get all of our pictures without hundreds of other tourists in the background. Eddar is a local and was very knowledgable about the ruins. It was a good mix of education and having the opportunity to explore / take pictures. We then packed back into the van and made the 30 minute drive to the bay, which was definitely worth it. There were a couple of other vans there, so we maybe had 40 people in the area total. It's nothing fancy, but they have a couple bathroom stalls, a few tables for lunch, and a bar. We saw in reviews that lunch was a little light, so we made sure to eat breakfast and brought a few snacks just in case, which worked perfectly. We probably had an hour at the lake and spent 90% of our time there in the water--it was the perfect temperature, perfectly clear, and super calm. They also had kayaks available if you wanted to venture out into the middle of the lake. The drive back was about an hour. I was nervous about spending so much time in the van, but it was definitely worth it. Also, the road is almost entirely straight and Edgar was a great driver, so no motion sickness involved. They got us back with an hour or so to shop, even with our early boarding time.

Great experience! - We really enjoyed the tour! Our guide, Joel, was very knowledgeable and was a local to the area before the port of Costa Maya was even opened. He was raised on Mayan traditions and even spoke Mayan as child (Spanish was his second language and English his third). The ruins were very nice to visit. The lunch was great. The 7 color Bacalar Lagoon was very beautiful and serene, though I think all my friends and I agreed it was probably our least favorite part of the tour. The lagoon was still great, but the ruins were awesome.

Pretty good day. - Guide was very good. We had a hard time hearing him over the noise of the van we were in. The van was too small for 2.5 hour drive. I ended up sitting over the wheel well. Food was good. Was a little upset we didn’t receive better directions to the kiosk until I asked. Also we were not told ahead of time to wear water shoes because of rocks in the lagoon. But again I say our guide was very good and knowledgeable.

Ruins fantastic- beach not so good. - The tour guide Joel and the driver were excellent and so were the Mayan ruins. Just beautiful. The “beach” was not due to rain and flood we had to go to this weird spot with no beach, no sand and tons of worms and ants. All over the place. The food and the people were good. Just should clean up the place and clean off the chairs before people get there and dump all of the worms off the chairs - plenty of guys there to clean the chairs before we arrived. Also the vehicle was HOT and only one small cold water offered.

A terrible experience and being cheated - I wish there was zero star option. The agent intentionally hide the fact that the tour plan couldn’t fit our schedule until last moment we heard from their local partner agent. The local agent also cheated us and put us on a different tour bus whose driver later on admitted he had to wait for other cruise passengers and couldn’t return in time for our schedule. This resulted time wasted and we didn’t have time for any trip. Avoid this trip, this agent and the local partner, Native Choice by all means.
