A Flavortown Dont Miss Tour! - 1. Tell the taxi to take you to the PALMERAS restaurant. (Lesson learned-they don’t always know addresses) 2. The tour guides met us at the restaurant and escorted us to the Destileria Cozumel, Cozumel’s first distillery. Ricardo warmly and proudly welcomed us to his distillery where he presented us with cold glasses of ice water (gratefully needed) and refreshing gin kiwi cocktails that had been prepared by his awarding winning mixologist, Jasmine. After we cooled off, Ricardo took us around and explained his distilling processes starting with the rainwater catchment and purification all the way through to the flavoring, blending, and aging of the different rums and the gin he bottles for sale. We then taste tested them all. Then Jasmine took us for our mixology lesson where we served up a couple of yummy gin based fruity drinks. Then it was time for guacamole, chips and tacos! The shrimp, pork, and fish tacos were scrumptious and were only made better by the fact that Ricardo had spearfished for and caught the Lion Fish himself, not only helping to rid the sea of an invasive species but also introduced us to a delicious new food. Upon request, Jasmine made one more delicious gin cocktail for me while my husband tried one of the beers that Ricardo’s wife brews at their brewery. It was an excellent IPA. We loved the tour and the tastings so much, we bought one of everything. We hope you do this tour as well and fall in love with the flavors like we did. This will be our “go to” place in Cozumel!
