A Journey Through Time: Chacchoben Ruins

As soon as I stepped off the cruise ship and into the vibrant energy of Costa Maya, I knew I was in for a treat. The air was thick with anticipation as I navigated through the bustling port, eventually finding my way to the meetup point for the Costa Maya Adventure. Our guides, Eddar and Edgar, greeted us with warm smiles and a map in hand, ready to lead us on a journey through history.

The van, a cozy 20-seater, promised an intimate experience, far removed from the crowded cruise line buses. As we set off, the hour-long drive to the Chacchoben Ruins was filled with stories of ancient Mayan culture, courtesy of Eddar, our knowledgeable guide. Arriving early, we had the rare opportunity to explore the ruins without the usual throngs of tourists. The tranquility of the site allowed me to fully immerse myself in the history and beauty of the ancient structures, capturing photos that seemed to echo the whispers of the past.

After soaking in the rich history of the ruins, we made our way to the Bacalar Lagoon, a place that seemed to be pulled straight from a dream. The 30-minute drive was a breeze, and as we arrived, the sight of the lagoon’s seven shades of blue took my breath away. With only a handful of other visitors, the lagoon felt like a private paradise.

I spent most of my time in the water, the perfect temperature and clarity making it impossible to resist. The calmness of the lagoon was a stark contrast to the powerful waves I’m used to riding, offering a different kind of connection with the water. For those seeking a bit more adventure, kayaks were available to explore the lagoon further. As I floated on the surface, I couldn’t help but feel a deep sense of peace, the kind that only comes from being surrounded by nature’s untouched beauty.

A Perfect End to a Perfect Day

As the sun began to dip below the horizon, we reluctantly packed up and headed back to the van. The return journey was smooth, with Edgar expertly navigating the straight roads back to the port. Despite the time spent in transit, the day’s experiences made every minute worthwhile.

Back at the port, we had just enough time to indulge in some local shopping before boarding the ship. Reflecting on the day’s adventure, I felt a renewed appreciation for the rich history and natural beauty of Quintana Roo. The Costa Maya Adventure had offered a perfect blend of exploration and relaxation, leaving me with memories that would linger long after the journey had ended.
