As soon as I stepped off the cruise ship and into the vibrant energy of Costa Maya, I knew I was in for a treat. Our guides, Eddar and Edgar, greeted us with warm smiles and a map in hand, ready to lead us on a journey through history.
The van, a cozy 20-seater, promised an intimate experience, far removed from the crowded cruise line buses. As we set off, the hour-long drive to the Chacchoben Ruins was filled with stories of ancient Mayan culture, courtesy of Eddar, our knowledgeable guide. Arriving early, we had the rare opportunity to explore the ruins without the usual throngs of tourists. As the sun began to dip below the horizon, we reluctantly packed up and headed back to the van. The return journey was smooth, with Edgar expertly navigating the straight roads back to the port. Despite the time spent in transit, the day’s experiences made every minute worthwhile.
Back at the port, we had just enough time to indulge in some local shopping before boarding the ship.
