Discover the Magic of Holbox with Alex! - Thank you for the amazing tour Alex! We had the best time learning about the beautiful Bioluminescence and the breathtaking Island of Holbox. Alex’s tour is a labor of love, and you can tell he is incredible passionate and knowledgeable of the natural phenomenon the Island has to offer. He provides transportation and gear for the tours, ensuring you get the most out of the experience. From snorkel gear and wetsuits, he makes sure that even the less comfortable parts (mosquitoes and such) are totally worth it! He explained about stars constellations and made our entire time so enjoyable. He also is fluent in many languages! So if you’re unsure if you’ll be able to follow along, Alex will make sure you will! Thank you Alex, for an incredible and memorable time, discovering the magic the land has to offer.

Great tour! - The tour was really worth it. We could see the glow in the sea and we were shown different constellations. Great was that we had the wetsuits because there are a lot of mosquitoes there at night.

Alex is an excellent guide - Moving your hands or feet underwater and seeing the plankton light up. Plus seeing the Milky Way. 2 for the price of one.

Incredible - Alex was fantastic. All of our gear arrived at the hotel as planned and we were picked up on time. When it first location did not have a high concentration of bioluminescent Alex was quick to take us to another. The second location at punta coco was amazing. Our first steps into the water immediately glowed. Alex was knowledgeable and a great guide. The wetsuits, while not necessary got the water, were a great barrier against mosquitos!

Swampy mosquito tour - Arguably the worst experience of our trip. We were picked up for the tour early, only to have to wait outside the guide’s house for 30 min sweating in a wetsuit and getting destroyed by mosquitos. Then we had to walk through the mangroves to a swampy area with little wind to keep the bugs at bay. Even when we got in the water, we couldn’t escape the mosquitos. Do yourselves a favor and do not book a tour. If you want to see the bioluminescence, it’s literally everywhere around punto cocos, starting at the water’s edge. You can take a taxi to the water, splash around for a couple minutes, and leave on your own schedule. The wonderment diminishes very quickly when you’re getting eaten alive. There does seem to be a tour that takes you off a dock at punto cocos that extends waaaaaay out into the water where there is enough wind to keep you off the menu. Not sure which operation uses the dock, but if you book a tour, that would be the one to do. No need to dip into the swampy “secret” spot. Would recommend a physical barrier, like a bug net, for your head. Your feet and hands will still have more red bumps than a 19th century brothel.
