Not All Excursion Details Are Accurate & Creepy Tour Guide - I wouldn't say we had the worst time, but it certainly wasn't the best. We were told to be outside the hotel lobby at 5:50 a.m. for the 6:00 a.m. pickup and to be respectful of time. However, our pickup was 25 minutes late. I was unaware that the pickup van was taking us to downtown Cancun, only to switch to a big bus that was going 45 minutes south to Playa del Carmen. The bus was filled with passengers going different directions. So what we thought would be two hour ride to Holbox ended up taking 5 hours to get to. We were told the guided tour was in English, but most of the time he spoke Spanish and sometimes in French. We had to continue to remind him that we would need the instructions in English in order to follow them. The excursion details on viator indicates that breakfast and lunch in a restaurant are included with the purchase price. Around 9:45 a.m. the guide on the bus passed around brown bag lunches (bologne sandwich, an apple, granola bar, and a juice) to everyone. This is when we thought we were on the wrong tour. But please be sure to eat what you are given, as it is 2:00 p.m. before you actually eat lunch at a sit down restaurant. There was no breakfast and no time to stop for breakfast anywhere. While on the bus, the tour guide collects the $3 USD tax that is not included. Only, it was a $4 USD tax per person, not $3 as mentioned in the detailed information. Not that this was a big deal to us, but it was to others on the bus. Once the bus stops in Holbox, you should have your sunscreen on before getting on the boat. I was trying to put mine on while on the boat and was quickly reprimanded for putting it on. I was told it wasn't allowed at the cenote (first stop). Maybe this was told to everyone on the bus in Spanish? The cenote swim was good, Pasion Island was beautiful, and so was Punto Mosquito. The lunch at the restaurant on Isla Holbox was delicious! One thing that is not mentioned anywhere is that there is no place to sit on the beach, unless you purchase everything (beach chairs, umbrellas, etc.). Bicycle rental for an hour is supposed to be included with the purchase of your excursion, however, the guide wasn't sure where the rental was and then proceeded to tell us that is was more than likely closed due to Mother's Day. So my husband and I paid an extra $40 to be driven around the island in their taxi service so we could explore the island. Prices for items on this island are very high. Much more than normal. Once our time was up, we boarded the boat to head back to the mainland. Throughout the day, every time we were all on the boat things were getting creepier and creepier with our tour guide. He continued throughout the entire day to hit on this young lady from Argentina (traveling with her parents). Serenading her numerous times with numerous love songs blasting from our boat. To the point where no other guest mattered and everyone was feeling a bit uncomfortable. I believe it was when he started playing "Let's get it on" by Marvin Gaye is when it really became uncomfortable. Once we reached the mainland, we all boarded the bus again, ready for the treacherous 5 hour drive back to Cancun. Once boarded, our tour guide found where the young lady was sitting, brushing her hair. He proceeded to flirt some more by taking her brush from her and smelling it. Then took it around and asked others to smell her brush. My husband and I were repulsed and just wanted to get back to our hotel. It's hard to say whether or not we would take this excursion again or recommend it to others. I think if it took less than 5 hours to get to and less than 5 hours to get back, sure, we would recommend. But DEFINITELY we would recommend this excursion to others if the tour guide tried a little harder to accommodate everyone on board (speaking English for those of us who needed that) not just one individual and if he was a little less flirtatious and creepy to the young women on board.
