Interesting - but not the smash ! - Were here on 27.10.2024 as part of a tour booked through MSC (cruise line). With our guide Lily (who herself has direct Mayan roots and speaks this language in addition to good English) we were picked up at the port of Cosomel and taken there by bus. At the entrance the usual souvenir shops without excellent prices, for the maximum possible touri rip-off. But there is also a drugstore that lures with untrustworthy offers (medicines) by German standards. One was also photographed with a traditionally painted woman. The painting was offered after the tour for $10, in the ugly ruin frame for $35. The tour was interesting thanks to Lily, but real Mayan pyramids will be sought here in vain, as it is a Mayan dwelling place. A Spaniard, whose name the complex bears, destroyed it largely with explosives because he suspects gold and other riches in it. Thus, the buildings shown here are actually ruins. Individual buildings are labeled with panels in English, Spanish and Mayan. PS: the announced ban on photography (or possible for a fee) has not come true.
