The area is characterized by massive petrified lava rocks, a unique feature in the Cayambe-Coca reserve rainforest.

Mikakucha - At the EPMAPS control hut, we can engage in birdwatching and observe mammals like the Carunculated Cara Cara, Andean Lapwing, Andean Gull, Páramo Pipit, Black Faced Ibis, and White-Tailed Deer. At La Mica Lagoon, we can spot bird species such as the Andean ruddy duck, Andean Teal, Andean Coot, silvery grebe, and yellow-billed pintail.

Peñon del Isco - After passing through the village of Pintag, we arrive at the Isco viewpoint, where the Andean condor roosts. Here, we can also see various hummingbird species like the giant hummingbird, Ecuadorian hillstar, black-tailed trainbearer, and Tyrian metal tail. We then ascend to 4000 meters (almost 13,000 feet) to observe the carunculated cara-cara, black-faced ibis, variable hawk, Andean Gull, Andean Lapwing, and paramo pipit. Next, we proceed to La Mica Lagoon to observe different bird species such as the Andean ruddy duck, Andean Teal, Andean Coot, silvery grebe, and yellow-billed pintail. Afterward, we return to the Tambo Condor restaurant for a traditional Andean lunch and to watch condors and more hummingbirds. We can observe nearly 25 bird species before heading back to Quito.

We’ll have the opportunity to sight nearly 25 species of birds. We’ll then conclude our trip by returning to Quito city.
