This excursion to the Chimborazo Volcano, one of Ecuador’s tallest peaks, is an opportunity you won’t want to miss, as it is replete with the iconic natural scenery of the Andes. Summer is the ideal season to ascend the Chimborazo Volcano.
At a height of 6,263 meters above sea level and 6,384 km, it is the most distant point on Earth. There are two shelters: the Hermanos Carrel shelter situated at 4845 Masl 15895 ft, and the Whymper shelter at 5042 Masl 16541 ft.
Frequently referred to as the Sovereign of the Ecuadorian Andes, Chimborazo outshines all other volcanoes and hills. The immense mass expands from the east to the west and its summit is adorned with glaciers, which provide water to the adjacent communities. Wildlife is primarily composed of llamas, vicuñas, dwarf deer, small rabbits, marsupial mice, páramo wolves, quindes, curiquingues, pigs, and condors.
