- San Antonio de Pichincha - Upon reaching the parish town of San Antonio de Pichincha, the vibrant energy of this small town on the Equatorial Line is evident. Notable structures include the Former Unasur building, once the headquarters of the South American Nations, and a large obelisk in the Middle of the World City. In the distance, a round elevation, considered sacred by Quito’s first inhabitants, is visible. It is believed that the first pre-Inca astrological observatory was built on this mountain. Other attractions in San Antonio include the mountains called “La Marca,” with the Pululahua crater on their reverse side. The climate here is dry, with summer temperatures reaching 75°F during the day and 54°F at night. In winter, temperatures do not drop significantly.
- Pululahua Volcano & Geobotanical Reserve - Contrary to popular belief, the Pululahua is an active volcano, though currently dormant. Located in the northern hemisphere near the equatorial line, it is part of the Geobotanical Reserve of the same name, spanning 13,000 hectares. Interestingly, people live within the crater, making it one of the world’s inhabited volcanoes. From the viewpoint, volcanic domes, houses, and tourist ventures can be seen, bringing life to the area.
- Intinan Museum - Discover the Intiñan Museum, situated 100 meters north of the giant obelisk, representing the Equator Line. The name Intiñan comes from the Kichwa word meaning sun trail. A local museum interpreter will guide visitors through various scenes depicting indigenous villages and centuries-old houses, among other attractions. Visitors can also conduct experiments to prove they are at the middle of the world, such as balancing a raw egg on a nail. Successful participants receive a diploma as a master of the egg.
- Mitad Del Mundo - A renowned tourist spot in Quito, declared a Cultural Heritage of Ecuador. In 1936, an Ecuadorian geographer proposed building a monument on the Equator line to honor the first arrival of the French Geodesic Mission in 1736. The idea was realized in 1976 with the construction of a 31-meter-high obelisk. This monument provides a stunning backdrop for memorable photos at the middle of the world, considered the historical Middle Of The World or The Equator Line.
- Quito - Conclude the day by returning to the hotel, or if preferred, the transport can drop guests at a recommended restaurant in Quito.
