Highlights
  • Quito - In the morning, our guide will pick you up at your hotel to accompany you on a visit to the city known as the Light of America, internationally acclaimed for having the largest and best-preserved historic center in Latin America. We start with an engaging tour of Quito’s most traditional market, where we’ll see flowers, fruits, typical foods, and the daily life of locals shopping. Next, we visit the Basilica of the National Vow, considered the most significant work of neo-Gothic architecture in the country. Here, we can climb its towers, observe its gargoyles, and explore its unfinished interiors, steeped in legend. We then head to Plaza Grande or Plaza de la Independencia, home to the Government Palace (Carondelet Palace), the Municipal Building, and the City Cathedral. A short walk brings us to La Compañía de Jesús Church, a baroque architectural gem and a stunning example of Quito’s colonial art.
  • San Francisco Catholic Church - Our journey continues to the Church of San Francisco, where we’ll delve into the fascinating myths and legends surrounding its construction. In this square, we’ll have the chance to taste some of the finest chocolates made from Ecuadorian cocoa. After this delightful stop, we’ll stroll to Morales Street, also known as La Ronda, a vibrant area with colorful houses preserved from colonial and republican times. We then proceed to the Panecillo viewpoint, located atop a hill at 3,035 meters above sea level, formerly known as “shungoloma” or heart hill. Here stands a large-scale (45 meters) aluminum replica of the Virgin of Quito, sculpted by Quito artist Bernardo de Legarda, with the original displayed on the main altar of the Church of San Francisco. At the end of the tour, our transportation will be ready to take you back to your hotel.
