Magnificent day - Very good outing to discover the Rangiroa lagoon with passage to the reef island, a very good meal served. Watch out for stone fish in the reef island pools!

A great afternoon on white sand motu and blue lagoon - This was a long but really enjoyable day. It is a great way to spend an afternoon on a white sandy beach on a motu that you do not have on the mainland. The coral garden wasn’t the best we had seen since we had been in French Polynesia but still lovely to snorkel. This is a place for diving more than snorkelling but we were glad to have seen it regardless. The day we had the tour there were not as many sharks and the water was not as clear as Bora Bora or Moorea (although we had had a lot of rain the day before) but still a great encounter to see black tip sharks and stingrays. The guide/captain and chef were a good laugh, a shame he didn’t speak a little more English to explain some of the birds and about the island. The lunch was authentic and delicious with a welcomed glass of Tahitian wine or beer. The guide played the ukelele and sang which was a really nice touch. They also taught us traditional Tahitian crafts and methods of opening coconuts. We hit bad weather on the way back but the captain and the chef ensured we were safe and warm with waterproof jackets and was a great boat driver to prevent sea sickness!! It is a minimum of 1 hour trip each way so be prepared for a little adventure! We would recommend this for a day in Rangiroa if you have a few days there and wish to have a break from diving.

Too long, but great ride - The boat ride was great. Snorkeling was fabulous. But there was too much down time in the hot sun on the private island. Fyi. No bathrooms (just the ocean). 8 hours was too long. 4 hours would have been great.

Watch the weather - Several things to note about this trip. If you leave from Rangiroa the trip to the Blue Lagoon is an hour away by speed boat. This is a very rough trip with the boat hitting the water really hard when it goes over a wave. If you have ANY kind of back issues, this is going to cause excruciating pain. Further, on the day we departed it was overcast but not raining in Rangiroa but the closer we got to the Blue Lagoon the worse the weather got, to the point that it was raining so hard that visibility went to near zero. In addition, we were in storm conditions with lightning and thunder for over 2 hours. Note that the boat will ground itself on a sand bar at the atoll and you must walk to shore, not any easy feat if you have any physical limitations at all, roughly 50 yards through the water. Getting in & out of the boat for several of us was horribly difficult. Walking back to the boat from the atoll was done in the water with a lightning storm all around us. It’s a miracle none of us were struck by lightning. It was terrifying. As we approached the Blue Lagoon area the skies were dark grey and we soon encountered the rain and storms. It stayed like this until just before we got back to the dock in Rangiroa, meaning we were pelted with hard rain for almost an hour back to the dock. If you’ve ever had this happen in a speed boat, you know how painful it is. Overall, it was inexcusable for this company to take a group out knowing the weather. So my advice? Check the weather the day you’re supposed to go out. Do not rely on the tour company to cancel a tour if the weather is bad. Cancel if it’s supposed to rain.
