Chasing Thrills and History: My Adventure on the Buffalo Hunt Coaster
Drawn by the allure of a one-of-a-kind roller coaster experience, I set out to Fort Hays in Rapid City, South Dakota. The Buffalo Hunt Coaster promised a thrilling blend of history and adventure that I couldn’t resist.
A Journey Back in Time
As we rolled into Rapid City, South Dakota, the familiar hum of our RV engine was a comforting reminder of the countless road trips my husband and I have embarked on over the years. The open road has always been a canvas for our adventures, and this time, it led us to the Buffalo Hunt Coaster at Fort Hays. The promise of a unique ride that combined the thrill of a roller coaster with the challenge of a shooting gallery was too intriguing to pass up.
The Fort Hays Old West Town greeted us with its rustic charm, a nod to the days of yore when the West was wild and untamed. As we strolled through the film set of “Dances With Wolves,” I couldn’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia for the stories of the Old West that I used to teach my students. The history here was palpable, and it set the stage for the adventure that awaited us.
The Thrill of the Hunt
The Buffalo Hunt Coaster was unlike anything I had ever experienced. As we strapped in, the anticipation was electric. The ride took off with a burst of speed, and we were soon soaring over a herd of fiberglass buffalo, our laser guns at the ready. The challenge was to hit as many targets as possible while the coaster swung us from side to side.
The exhilaration of the ride was matched only by the laughter and cheers of my family. My husband and I, along with our two teenage grandchildren, found ourselves caught up in the competitive spirit of the game. Each ride was a chance to improve our scores, and the friendly banter between us made the experience all the more enjoyable.
The staff at Fort Hays were a delight, their enthusiasm infectious as they cheered us on and offered tips to improve our aim. It was easy to lose track of time, and before we knew it, we had spent nearly two hours riding the coaster, each round more thrilling than the last.
An Evening to Remember
After the adrenaline rush of the Buffalo Hunt Coaster, we settled in for the Fort Hays Dinner Show. The transition from the fast-paced action of the ride to the relaxed atmosphere of the show was seamless. As we enjoyed a hearty meal, we were entertained by a lively performance that brought the spirit of the Old West to life.
The show was a perfect blend of humor, music, and storytelling, and it was clear that the performers were passionate about their craft. It was a fitting end to a day filled with adventure and laughter, and as we made our way back to our RV, I couldn’t help but reflect on the joy of sharing these experiences with my family.
The Buffalo Hunt Coaster at Fort Hays is more than just a ride; it’s a journey into the heart of America’s past, a reminder of the stories that have shaped our nation. For those who, like me, find joy in the open road and the tales it tells, this unique experience is not to be missed. Buffalo Hunt Coaster
