Ascending the eastern inclines of Psiloritis on a regional highway unveils breath-taking panoramas of Heraklion and the Cretan Sea. Our journey takes us to Krousonas, followed by a dusty trail running alongside the gorge of the same name, leading to an expansive plateau. The area is stunning, dotted with countless pear and apple trees. Visit during the spring and you’ll witness a brilliant display of blossoms. The unpaved path guides us to the Nida Plateau, home to Idaion Andron, the cavern where Zeus was nurtured. We’ll halt at Ancient Zominthos on our way back, an archaeological treasure found only in 1982, but ranks amongst Crete’s most significant findings. Our next stop is Anogia, where we partake in a traditional meal. The journey back to Heraklion will be via the Heraklion-Anogia provincial route.
