The Golden Circle is Iceland’s most renowned day trip, and for good reason. Visitors can witness the original Geysir, a unique experience. The sight of Gullfoss waterfall alone justifies the trip. Þingvellir is a National Park, nature reserve, UNESCO World Heritage site, and is divided by the Mid-Atlantic Rift. With our Super jeeps, the impressive Langjökull glacier can also be added to your itinerary. The day begins at Þingvellir, where Iceland’s Parliament was established in 930 AD. Here, you can view “the edge of America” across the Mid-Atlantic continental divide. The journey continues past the geothermally heated Laugarvatn lake, leading to the Great Geysir hot spring area, dotted with various boiling water springs. The most impressive, Strokkur, erupts boiling water up to 30 meters high, as frequently as three times a minute. After enjoying Geysir, a short drive brings us to Gullfoss waterfall, Iceland’s most frequented, where glacier meltwater cascades in two stages into a 70-meter deep basalt canyon. We then navigate a gravel path winding up mountains towards Europe’s second-largest glacier, Langjökull. Here, a snowmobile ride is available if pre-booked, subject to weather, conditions, and time of year. In the afternoon, we descend and cross the South Iceland agricultural heartland on our return to Reykjavik.
