The Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon, distinguished by its mammoth, centuries-old icebergs, is a standout attraction in Iceland that is not to be overlooked. The serene ambience generated by the thousand to fifteen hundred-year-old ice chunks, which have detached from the Vatnajökull glacier and silently drift into the lake on a melting journey, is awe-inspiring. The lagoon spans approximately 18 square kilometres (7 square miles), reaching depths of over 248 metres (814 ft). As you stroll along the water’s edge, you might realize some familiar scenes from renowned films like Batman Begins, Tomb Raider and a couple of James Bond films that used this unique location as a backdrop.
