  • Raufarholshellir - We visit the lava tunnel Raufarhólshellir located only 30 minutes from Reykjavík. We will witness the inner workings of a volcanic eruption while we walk in the path of a lava that flowed thousands of years ago. The lava tunnel is one of the biggest in Iceland and gets up to 30 metres wide and 10 metres high. The lava tube ceiling has caved in near the entrance, which creates beautiful columns of light. One of my best experiences - The site is tremendous, quite unlike usual cave systems. The guide was wonderful. She was very helpful, explained many interesting things and was always in control allowing at the same to look around and get a feeling of this magnificient tunnel. One of my best experiences.

Underground beauty - Walking in the tunnel was amazing. The colors I saw were beautiful. The lack of an echo in the tunnel was interesting. It was a worthwhile day trip

Awesome cave experience - This was an excellent tour. One of the best cave tours you will be a part of and is approriate for children. Our daughter is 8 yo and loves rocks, she absolutely love it! There were also younger children enjoying the tour. We are very thankful to our guide at the lava tunnel. She explained things well with a good sense of humor. She also ensured everyone had an opportunity to walk safely and see the colors of the rocks. We had time to take great colorful pictures. The tour leaves on time from The departures area, be there 10-15 min before. The bus has a sign with the name of the tour. Reykjavik excursions provides a bus transfer who will wait for you on site and will bring you back to either BSI bus terminal (if you have another tour) or your hotel. please understand they are not the guides for this experience so don’t expect commentary during the bus ride.

Terrific lava tunnel expedition - An unusual experience, lots of fun, and delightful guide (Alex) made it memorable. It was hard going on slippery rocks but nobody fell down. Fascinating geology and beautiful rocks deep inside.

Impressive lava cave - The tour inside the cave was very intuitive. This is the standard and easy one so don't worry about it too much. It was quite cold right inside the cave so be prepared for that.

Good views, high prices. - The experience itself was great, the price was debatable. If you go to the office itself, the price is half what’s advertised on here. I understand you’re getting transportation, but come on…$60 per person. Highly recommend the tunnel, but drive there yourself if possible and pay at the location.
