Kansans seeking Northern lights - Our group of 11 joined Jens from funtravel on a trip around the ring road. We stayed in lovely farm stays and guest houses as we explored so many beautiful sites. The food and coziness of the places we stayed were awesome. Jens was easy to work with and helped us tailor the trip of a lifetime to include a visit to the Blue Lagoon, glacier hike, and ice cave. We really wanted to see the northern lights and thought this tour gave us our best chance out of all the options we saw. We were not disappointed! We actually got to see them on 2 nights. We saw so many awesome sites, both natural and historical. We all enjoyed the personal touches, especially "story time." The small group experience was perfect for us, and we would highly recommend it.

Don't stress out during vacation, enjoy it. - Iceland has a varied landscape, a ridiculous amounts of scenic vistas, and all the small 2 lane roads that wind around mountains and cliffs that you could ask for. I couldn't imagine having half as much fun or seeing a quarter of the things we did during our travels without a well traveled and well informed tour guide such as Jens. I was able to see some great locations, learn some Icelandic history, and relax knowing that I didn't have to worry about navigating or driving through a country that could be very frustrating to travel alone. I cannot recommend Jens enough if you want a trip that is packed with interesting locales and comfy accommodations. All of the farm stays we were at had excellent food and beautiful surroundings.

Amazing tour - Highly recommend this tour if you planning to visit Iceland. Jens, one of the owner of this company is an understanding, responsible, professional and knowledgeable guide. We have joined the aurora and glacier tour in Feb 2020 and it was an unforgettable experience in my life. Just 3 of us in the group, like engaged a private tour. Jens will share the history of Iceland throughout the journey. Sometimes, he might be a bit quiet, but he will be able to answer every question and share the tips with you. Breakfast and dinner were included in the tour and he will stop along the way in town for us to grab the lunch. Breakfast is in buffet style and dinner prepared by the Farmhouse/Guesthouse was really really delicious! The Farm stay and guesthouse were cozy with nice view. The tour is reasonably priced and worth every penny.

Adventures in Iceland - March 5-15, 2020: The adventure of a lifetime with our guide, Jens. The small tour bus was packed with our group of 10 + luggage, as Jens transported us to see Iceland’s well-known sites & lesser-known corners of the country. Several of the taller/larger group members found the bus uncomfortable & would have liked more legroom. I found this vehicle to be a refreshing alternative to the large tour buses of 40-60 roaring around the island that can’t travel off the beaten path as we did with Jens at the wheel. The weather is highly unpredictable & can change quickly & often, so have your gear & layers of outerwear at the ready in your backpack (not in your suitcase stowed in the back of the bus). Roads often close in winter months-prevented us from traveling to see the Myvatn area in NE Iceland, so Jens lined up alternate lodging for one night & the next day drove us back the way we came-around the southern Ring Road from Reyoarfjorour in the east to north of Bogarnes in the west. Road Warrior Jens, drove us 10.5 hours through white outs & high winds to ensure that we would be able to see as much of the original itinerary as possible. We appreciated his tireless efforts. Be ready for these kinds of unpredictable changes in the winter. In addition to brief photo stops, Jens stopped to lead a “walk” over slippery & sometimes uneven terrain that would take you to a remote black pebble beach, seaside overlook, waterfall or glacial lagoon-simply breathtaking! Crampons, hiking poles & ski goggles really helped this petite 64-year old navigate the paths and follow Jens, who beamed with delight as we reached our destination & were wowed by the spectacular vistas. These windy winter walks are optional for all who are willing & able, but are not for the faint of heart, physically fragile or unequipped. The ones who opted out stayed in the bus, at the local café or walked nearby. This tour included a bumpy ride in a giant super truck followed by a fantastic 30-minute hike over wide open terrain to explore a Blue Ice Cave & moulin. At Skaftafellsjokull, I opted for a great 4-mile roundtrip hike over the frozen glacial lagoon. Also, hiked with Jens up the cliff at Stykkisholmur to the red lighthouse with awe-inspiring views. Lunch stops were cafes in small villages with fresh, homemade fare. Jens shared his knowledge of Iceland’s history, geology & geography, & answered my many questions along the way. At my request, he tried to teach me to count to 10 in Icelandic & seemed to appreciate my struggle to pick up a few Icelandic words in this language of ancient origins. At a few stops, Jens read a short Icelandic fairy tale to us-an unexpected treat. He packs a lot into every day with a schedule to keep, so he wasn’t willing to make additional stops at our request to photograph, for example, Icelandic horses in the fields. I thoroughly enjoyed overnights at guest/farmhouses that were charming, clean & comfortable with friendly staff. Twin rooms are small by American standards but are complimented by nicely furnished “community” rooms where our group relaxed after dinner each night. Most had a bar where we could buy a drink at our own expense. The local farm-to-table dinners were delicious-fresh fish & the tastiest lamb ever. Breakfasts offered a nice selection with superb coffee. And do take the opportunity to drink as much of the clear Icelandic water as possible! We chased Miss Aurora but she didn’t show-maybe next time. If you want a winter adventure, this tour with Jens is for you!

Expectations exceeded - I cannot recommend this tour, or this tour company, more. Jens was a terrific driver and wonderful guide, with exceptional knowledge of the history and mythology of the country. The itinerary took us to all the incredible sights and unique locations including many which you would not likely consider when planning a visit to Iceland. The accommodation was varied, as is consistent with Europe, but in all cases was clean and comfortable. Special mention to Guesthouse Fjalladyrd, which provides a perfect setting for the Northern Lights (if you are so lucky). The included meals were always good and perfectly showcased the region's produce. Just note, if you don't eat lamb or fish, make sure you inform Jens early, as the farm stays were able to make suitable arrangements. The bus was exceptionally comfortable and allows Jens to take you places that bigger tours could not reach. I had a wonderful time in Iceland and i cannot wait to return for summer.

Amazing experiences around every bend - A wonderful time to go to Iceland, and I highly recommend Fun Travel to it for you. Jens was a great driver, in whom we had every confidence especially in icy conditions. The accommodation was good, although a double room would have been nice, as we had twin beds the whole time, with the exception of the first night at Hotel Klettur. Although when we returned to this hotel at the completion of our tour, the room was very poor and not as spacious and was quite shabby. The other guesthouses and farm stays were varied and comfortable. The breakfasts and dinners were always good and the options for coffee stops and lunch was also adequate. We were able to stop at one liquor store, which helped our budget, as Iceland is an expensive place to visit. Jens gave great commentary and we never felt bored or overloaded with the information. The sights we saw were sensational. The inclusions on this tour made the trip even more enjoyable. It was a small group, with only our family of 4 (Couple and 2 adult offspring). Most tours wouldn't offer a tour unless the bus was full, but this was one of reasons we chose Fun Travel, we could plan ahead, knowing the that tour was going, despite the small number. We were lucky enough to see the Northern lights on 2 occasions. It got very cold and we had to walk on icy tracks. Consider buying crampons if you go in winter. They would have been a good investment for us, as we did a bit of slipping and sliding on some walks. All of which were well worth the struggle, as the scenery at the end of these tracks was breathtaking. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed this tour and I can't speak more highly of Jens and his commitment to his clients.

Unforgettable time in Iceland - We had a wonderful time on our tour of Iceland! Our tour guide, Jens was very knowledgable and it was such a lovely vacation not having to worry about how we would be getting around or to the next site. Everyday is a surprise to us as we got to enjoy many facets of Iceland everyday. Accommodation was comfortable and cozy. We would highly recommend Fun Travel to our friends and family.

FUN in Iceland, in winter!! - This was a brilliant 10 day FUN tour with local man Jens as our great driver, as well as a terrific planner and co-ordinator. Jens’ knowledge of Iceland, both historic and geological, was fantastic and he was able to give our lovely group of six passengers just enough information so we were not overloaded. His reading of an Icelandic fairy tale was looked forward to each day. Being in a small bus, Jens was able to take us to scenic places (and waterfalls) that the full size tourist buses could not go. Each lunch stop, Jens would check with our evening dinner venue, and would be able to tell us what the evening meal would be and what we could expect with the local catch of the day or regional speciality. Each day a local dish and never 2 days the same, wonderful!! The accommodation chosen by Jens were all ‘farm stays’ or small guesthouses, all very clean, cosy and comfortable. Breakfasts were also very well done with plenty to choose from and to cater for all tastes. We were just blown away by the fabulous scenery of Iceland and seeing the Northern lights on one occasion was icing on the cake. We could not fault Jens in any way, not that we were looking for faults, this was a fabulous tour, very highly recommended and would readily do it all again.

Good with Caveats - We booked a winter week-long family tour through SE Iceland with Fun Tours. It lived up to our itinerary. Airport pick-ups and drop-offs were perfect. Having other families with young (elementary-middle school) children was fantastic. Getting to know families from England was wonderful plus the kids were a riot. We were fortunate to have a great mix of adults and young people. We traveled in a small van with three families, a total of 8 people and a driver. Around the Reykjavik area we had a local driver, Asa, who was fantastic and personable. She read the group well and far exceeded our needs and anticipations. Leaving the area the manager of the tour, Jens, was OK. We stopped at all the requisite stops. We had enough time to explore the various waterfalls, lagoons, etc. We had a lovely glacier walk that was superb. But when we arrived at our final destination each day he was definitely "off the clock." We had some issues. We found our Reykjavik lodging had been changed. We paid for an lovely city center hotel, Hotel Reykjavik Centrum, at twice the price. This hotel was in walking distance of all the fun things like Harpa, etc. Instead, we were moved to a very basic hotel (Klettur) farther away. This was a typical bus hotel with mediocre amenities and a breakfast with masses of people and very basic food. This wouldn't have been a major issue--except this was not what we paid for. (We stayed at Centrum our last night--off tour--and saw the huge difference.) Rooms at the Klettur were problematic--the management open our room door a several occasions because the lock didn't work, we each had one tiny (hard) towel, and a toilet paper holder that continually fell off the wall. (We are trying to reconcile the price difference with Prestige, US tour operator, who booked Fun.) Also, during our tour out of the city we had two nights at a hotel Jens said was owned by a family member. It was a perfectly acceptable lodging but it made our routing suspicious. For our final tour day, we had to call him about our trip to the Blue Lagoon. He claims he gave us instructions for a pick-up by another driver but no one in our group remembered hearing instructions. (Our driver on the final day to the Lagoon was terrific even tough the van seemed to have mechanical issues--we had to struggle to open the passenger door and the engine sounded terrible when idling.) When Jens missed our last evening's dinner in the city so we had no opportunity to say good bye or address any of these issues in person. We had a good trip-just beware. We were left with un-reconciled concerns.
