Highlights
  • Berserkjahraun - The rugged and untamed lava field of Berserkjahraun offers a quintessential view of Iceland’s landscape. Formed over 4000 years ago, it is featured in many of the renowned Icelandic sagas of medieval literature.
  • Kirkjufell Mountain - Known as Iceland’s most famous mountain, Kirkjufell, along with the nearby Kirkjufellsfoss waterfall, is a perfect spot for photography. Well-maintained pathways allow for easy exploration and appreciation of the natural beauty.
  • Snaefellsjokull National Park & Glacier - Located on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula in western Iceland, Snæfellsjökull National Park is celebrated for its stunning landscapes and geological features. Established in 2001, the park is dominated by the Snæfellsjökull volcano, capped by a glacier and famously featured in Jules Verne’s Journey to the Center of the Earth. The park boasts rugged coastlines, lava fields, and diverse flora and fauna, offering hiking trails and breathtaking views. It also includes cultural and historical sites, such as ancient fishing villages and Viking settlements, making it a popular destination for nature and history enthusiasts.
  • Dritvik and Djupalonssandur - Visit the black sand beach of Djúpalónssandur, rich in history. Once a bustling fishing area, the sea is now empty as boats have moved elsewhere. All that remains are the wreckage of a British trawler on the black sands and several ‘lifting stones’ that were used to test the strength of potential fishermen. You can try your hand at lifting them to see if you would have made the cut!
  • Lóndrangar View Point - These magnificent rock formations, standing 75 and 61 meters tall, rise out of the Arctic Ocean. These two rock pinnacles, volcanic plugs of basalt, are a stunning natural wonder.
  • Arnarstapi Center and Snjófell Restaurant - Arnarstapi is a charming Icelandic fishing village with a rich history dating back to the Viking era. Enjoy a breathtaking walk along the coastline with impressive sea cliffs populated by a variety of seabirds. The area is perfect for photography and experiencing the raw beauty of Iceland.
  • Ytri Tunga Beach - Unlike Djúpalónssandur, this beach features the golden sand more familiar to visitors from overseas. Ytri Tunga is notable for the seal colonies that can be seen lounging on the rocks just offshore.
  • Budakirkja - The Budir Black Church is a striking little church set in a desolate landscape. It’s a popular subject for photographers, and you’ll have a chance to capture it during this short photo stop.

A very cool tour - Firstly any tour by BusTravel Iceland is well worth it. From pick up to drop off, you will not be disappointed. Our guide was M Dog (aka Matt) who filled our trip with information, humor and many fun facts, along with our driver Magic Mike- who truly is magic at getting us there and maneuvering around traffic/ parking. The scenery is breathtaking all along the route with so many waterfalls and stunning views. Kirkjufell is awesome and only the start of the adventure. Our trip started rainy but cleared up later in the day so that we could clearly see a glacier while at the black church. We also were lucky enough to see an arctic fox as well as many seals at the white sand beach. Definitely recommend checking this one out.

Outstanding - The driver and guide for bus 611 (can’t remember names) were EXCELLENT! Though a couple of entitled individuals failed to realize the universe did not evolve around them, bus 611 team remained professional and gave a wonderful tour!! Thank you!

Snaefellsnes peninsula - We enjoyed the tour enormously, so many things to see and we had the greatest guide and driver Alain. In addition to being able to keep everybody interested the whole time, he sings well!

Comprehensive excellence! - Sigi gave the best day-long tour that I have enjoyed in a long time! He was a fine host. His pride in being from Reykjavik added greatly to the enjoyment of our day. If Sigi ends up being your tour guide, rest assured that you are in good hands! Go Mannschaft!

Unmissable! - A really wonderful day seeing the beautiful sights in Snaefellsnes National Park - Kirkjufjell mountain, waterfalls, lavafields, spectacular cliffs, beaches and especially seal watching. Bus travel Iceland was very well organised, our guide/driver was friendly and gave us a nice commentary about the sights. More information about the local culture would have been great. One small snag was the location of the lunch stop. The was food options at the visitor centre were a bit limited. I would suggest to explore the cute cafe in the neighbouring Maritime Museum for further choices- we ran out of time to sit and eat there. Or think ahead and pack your own lunch. I do understand that the remoteness of the location makes it tricky though! It's a very long day but well worth it. Highly recommend!
