South Iceland: Waterfalls and Black Sand Beach Tour

Embark on a thrilling South Iceland Exploration tour and discover the breathtaking beauty of waterfalls, black sand beaches, and majestic mountains. Explore the dramatic landscapes and learn about notorious volcanoes with an expert guide.

Duration: 10 hours
Cancellation: 24 hours
Highlights
  • Volcano Hekla - Hekla is one of Iceland’s most active volcanoes, and was for centuries believed to be the entrance to hell.
  • Skogafoss - Visit Skogafoss waterfall. This is a picturesque 200-foot (60-meter) tall, broad and powerful waterfall, and due to its striking appearance it is frequently used in movies and commercials. You can get close enough to feel the spray from the falls on your face and, if you like, then climb a stairway leading to the top of the falls allowing you a view from above.
  • Black Sand Beach - Stroll along the black sand and pebble beach of Reynisfjara. The beach features stacks of basalt columns that wall off surrounding cliffs scattered with caves. You will be awed by the incredibly powerful waves of the Atlantic ocean crashing on to the shore. Offshore you will see the Reynisdrangar pillars, basalt rock stacks that rise from the sea.
  • Vik - Here we stop at a local restaurant for a lunch break at your own expense.
  • Volcano Eyjafjallajokull - A volcano / glacier, which gained worldwide attention in 2010 when the ash cloud from an eruption stopped all flight traffic in Europe.
  • Solheimajokull Glacier - Short stop by Solheimajokull, an outlet glacier of Myrdalsjokull glacier.
  • Seljalandsfoss - Seljalandsfoss is a unique waterfall in that you can actually walk behind it when the weather permits and experience the beauty of this waterfall in a completely new way.

A great day trip BEYOND the Golden Circle - Great trip for a reasonable price. Waterfalls, black sand beaches, volcano & glacier viewing, long day (9-10 hours).

Great day tour option - Our tour guide, Emilia, was friendly, knowledgeable, and fun! We had ample time to check out each location and saw even more along the ride. Hearing about how each destination received its name and other bits of Icelandic Folklore truly added to the experience. Would definitely recommend booking through this company!

A must do! - Darren was amazing. Very friendly, funny, and didn’t talk too much. Highly recommend this tour. We got lucky and the weather was clear as a bell. The southern coast is beautiful. Thanks

Great tour to see the southern coast - Even with rainy weather, this tour was great. You saw 2 amazing waterfalls, the black sand beach and glacier. It was cloudy the day we went so we were not able to see the volcano.

Perfect tour - After Bus Travel Iceland cancelled my excursion 20 hours before it was supposed to start, Gray Line was my backup plan. It should have been my #1 plan. The experience was really great! The pick-up service is perfect. The tour is on time with comments along the road. Time for visites is enough. We had great time. The landscape was astonishing. Waterfalls marvelous and Black sand beach amazing. Thank you.

Great tour - Darren as a tour guide and Helgi as the bus driver did an excellent job. Darren gave a lot of information and managed our group well. Helgi drove very safely and dropped everyone at their hotels of, outstanding driving a big bus through the tight streets of Reykjavik. I would do any tour with both of them anytime.

Southern waterfall Iceland - Fantastic falls the best waterfall I have ever been to . In my humble opinion more spectacular than the great Nigara falls.

Hire Good Guides - Overall, the sites themselves were good, but the guide left a lot to be desired. While I understand they need to be mindful of time, treating adults like children is simply not acceptable. For some fine examples: - she stated we couldn't go within 300m of the water. Well, if we were 300m+ away from the water, we wouldn't even be on the beach. - she stated we couldn't walk maybe 100m away from an observation point because it would take too long and rambled off more and more excuses. The tour ended with some nice political commentary and talking about how broke they are. It was quite absurd.
