Highlights

The Golden Circle

Thingvellir National Park - Explore the famous Golden Circle, starting with Þingvellir National Park and Rift Valley, where the North American and European tectonic plates separate. This site also hosted the ancient Icelandic parliament established in 930, making it a revered location for Icelanders.

Geysir - Next, visit the Geysir hot spring area, home to the original Geysir hot spring, the namesake of all geysers. Although Geysir is no longer active, the nearby Strokkur hot spring erupts every few minutes.

Gullfoss Waterfall - Continue to Gullfoss, or the “Golden Falls,” one of Iceland’s most breathtaking waterfalls. Situated in the Hvítá river canyon in southwest Iceland, it features a dramatic two-tiered drop of 32 meters. The powerful water flow often creates mist that produces vibrant rainbows on sunny days.

Selfoss - Conclude the day in the town of Selfoss. Located in southern Iceland along the Ölfusá River, Selfoss is the largest town in the South Iceland region and serves as a key agricultural and commercial center. Known for its beautiful scenery and vibrant community, Selfoss offers various amenities, including shops, restaurants, and cultural attractions.

Volcanoes, Ice Cave & Waterfalls

Volcano Eyjafjallajokull - Travel along Iceland’s south coast, enjoying views of glacier tongues, waterfalls, rugged hills, black sand beaches, and notable volcanoes, including Eyjafjallajökull.

Seljalandsfoss - Stop at Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, which stands 60 meters tall. You can walk behind the waterfall, but be prepared for the water mist that can make you wet.

Skogafoss - Visit the impressive Skógafoss Waterfall, one of Iceland’s largest and most famous waterfalls, located near the village of Skógar. With a 60-meter drop and a 25-meter width, it creates a stunning water curtain that often forms rainbows on sunny days. Visitors can climb a staircase to the top for panoramic views or explore the base to fully appreciate the waterfall’s power.

Reynisfjara Beach - Head to the black sand beach at Reynisfjara to see the geological formations and crashing waves. Be cautious, as the waves can be dangerous.

Vik - Visit Vík, a small, picturesque village on Iceland’s southern coast, known for its dramatic natural scenery. As the southernmost village in Iceland, Vík is a key hub for travelers exploring the region. It’s close to the Mýrdalsjökull glacier, which caps the Katla volcano, adding to the area’s dramatic landscape. Despite its small size, Vík is an essential community for the surrounding area, offering vital services and serving as a base for tourists exploring Iceland’s southern coast.

Reykjavík & Sky Lagoon

Reykjavik - Start the day with a panoramic city tour of Reykjavík, Iceland’s capital and largest city. Known for its vibrant culture, history, and natural beauty, Reykjavík is nestled by the sea with a mountain backdrop. The city is famous for its colorful buildings, creative arts scene, and lively nightlife. As a gateway to Iceland’s stunning landscapes, Reykjavík is the starting point for adventures into geothermal hot springs, glaciers, and volcanic terrains. Despite its northern location, the city is warm with a welcoming spirit and rich in museums, galleries, and restaurants showcasing Icelandic cuisine and craftsmanship.

Sky Lagoon - Visit the Sky Lagoon, a geothermal spa near Reykjavik, offering a luxurious and serene experience that captures Iceland’s unique geothermal landscape. This tranquil oasis features an infinity-edge design that blends with stunning views of the North Atlantic, providing a sense of unity with nature. The lagoon’s signature 7-step ritual guides guests through relaxation and rejuvenation, combining warm waters, cold plunges, saunas, and steam baths. The Sky Lagoon’s minimalist architecture and natural materials complement the breathtaking Icelandic scenery, making it a must-visit for those seeking to unwind and experience the country’s famed geothermal luxury (optional extra).

Fantastic Experience - Our driver Pall and guide Petur were absolutely fantastic. We learned a lot about the places we visited, and life in Iceland in general, with some great bits of humour along the way. We had some last minute changes to our trip due to the strikes in Reykjavik but were always kept informed on what was happening. When we return to Iceland again we will be booking with Snaeland Travel.
