Colossus of Rhodes - The Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, was a massive statue of the sun god. We will pass by the location where this monument once stood: the entrance to the port!
Kallithea Springs - Kallithea is renowned for its natural springs, where we will stop for about an hour. Here, you are invited to explore and enjoy a refreshing morning swim. The healing properties of the springs have been known since ancient times. Reddish water erupts from a rocky formation in the Gulf of Kallithea, attracting people for thousands of years. Italian architect Pietro Lombardi designed the buildings, while Armando Burnaby, another prominent Italian architect, handled the decorative work, respecting the natural environment. A year later, Italian doctor Alberto Mocci organized an International Hydrological Conference here, attended by over 200 scientists. Visitors discovered both physical and mental cleansing in this tranquil setting. Admission from the sea is free, and you will have ample time to visit before we set sail for our second stop.
Faliraki Beach - On our way back, we will pass by Faliraki Beach. Faliraki is a beautiful coastal town known for its stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters, and vibrant nightlife, making it one of the most popular tourist destinations in Rhodes.
Afandou Beach - Afandou is famous for its extensive beach with crystal-clear waters, stretching about 6 km and consisting of pebbles. It also boasts a large golf course. Pebbles from here have been used in the construction of the sidewalks of the Old Town of Rhodes. The area around Afandou has many monuments, tombs, and temple foundations. The coastal settlement was attacked and destroyed three times: by pirates in 620, by Persians in 653, and by Arabs in 807. After these attacks, the inhabitants moved inland behind the rocks, where the settlement is located today, invisible from the sea. The name Afandou comes from the Greek word ‘Afando,’ meaning invisible. You will have over an hour to explore the area and the caves before we open the lunch buffet back on board.
Ladiko Beach - A unique destination, Ladiko Beach got its name from the containers used to store oil. This beautiful beach was a commercial point for loading and unloading olive oil. Local fishermen have found several clay containers from shipwrecks in the area. Located behind Anthony Quinn Bay and surrounded by caves, Ladiko is now a busy beach popular for boat tours and underwater activities.
Anthony Quinn Bay - Our next stop is Anthony Quinn Bay, a small bay surrounded by high rocks with very deep water. Thousands of small fish inhabit this bay, and you are welcome to use the complimentary snorkeling gear available on the boat. You can also throw bread to attract the fish. The bay is named after the famous Mexican actor Anthony Quinn, who starred in the 1960s film ‘The Guns of Navarone.’ Quinn was so captivated by the bay’s beauty that he asked the Greek state if he could buy it. Although the agreement was never finalized, the locals named the beach in his honor. Are you ready for a day of adventure and beauty?
Mandraki Harbour - The cruise starts and ends at the beautiful Mandraki Harbour. This ancient ‘sheep pen,’ known as ‘mandri’ in Greek, was one of the five ports of ancient Rhodes. It served as the naval port and was known as the ‘small harbour’ compared to the ‘great harbour,’ now the Commercial Harbour. Legend has it that the Colossus of Rhodes spanned the harbour entrance, but there is no proof of this. Today, twin columns from the Venetian era, bearing statues of Rhodian deer, stand on either side of the harbour gap. On the opposite side lies the 15th-century Fortress of Agios Nikolaos, named after the island’s patron saint. This massive fortress evolved from a small church into an imposing bastion by the Grand Master of the Knights of St. John. Sharing this scenic view are three well-preserved medieval windmills.
