Setting Sail to Symi

The anticipation was palpable as I made my way to the marina in Rhodes Town, ready to embark on the High-Speed Boat Tour to Symi Island. As a marine biologist, the allure of the sea is irresistible, and the promise of exploring one of Greece’s most picturesque islands was too tempting to resist. The boat, sleek and modern, awaited us with cushioned bucket seats at the front and bench seating under cover. I chose a spot on the top deck, eager to feel the wind in my hair and the sun on my face.

The journey to Symi was swift, taking just an hour. The sea was a bit choppy, but the boat’s design ensured a comfortable ride. As we sped past the coast of Rhodes and caught glimpses of the Turkish shoreline, I couldn’t help but marvel at the vastness of the Aegean Sea. The boat was equipped with all the necessary amenities, including separate male and female toilets, ensuring a comfortable journey for all.

Arriving at Symi was like stepping into a fairytale. The port town, with its crayon-colored mansions perched on the hillside, exuded a charm that was both enchanting and timeless. With three hours to explore, I wandered through the narrow streets, discovering quaint shops, inviting cafes, and local restaurants. The climb up the many steps offered breathtaking views of the harbor below, though I must admit, I didn’t make it all the way to the top.

For those who prefer a more leisurely pace, the waters around the clock tower provide a perfect spot for a refreshing dip. However, families with young children might find the town’s offerings a bit limited in terms of entertainment. Nevertheless, the beauty of Symi is in its simplicity and the opportunity to immerse oneself in its serene atmosphere.

A Refreshing Swim at St. George’s Bay

The return journey included a stop at St. George’s Bay, a secluded cove with crystal-clear waters that beckoned us to dive in. Equipped with pool noodles for floating, we had 30 minutes to enjoy the refreshing embrace of the sea. Whether jumping off the front of the boat or using the ladder at the rear, the experience was exhilarating and rejuvenating.

As we made our way back to Rhodes, I reflected on the day’s adventure. The crew, friendly and fluent in English, ensured a seamless experience, even assisting with the slightly tricky boarding due to tidal differences. While the step on and off the boat could be challenging for some, the crew’s attentiveness made it manageable.

This high-speed boat tour to Symi Island was a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation, offering a glimpse into the serene beauty of the Aegean and the vibrant charm of Symi. For anyone drawn to the sea, this experience is not to be missed.
