Ribeira Brava - The name Ribeira Brava originates from the forceful river that flows through the village, shaped by the watercourses that traverse the county from North to South, featuring steep slopes. This striking feature left a strong impression on the discoverers, leading them to name the village Ribeira Brava.

Serra de Agua - Serra de Água is encircled by a thick forest and towering mountains, including the peaks of the Cross, Cedar, and Pico Grande. It is nourished by numerous streams like Fajã das Éguas, Poço, and Serra da Água, which collectively form the Ribeira Brava river. The name comes from a mill built for sawing wood, known as the “saw of water,” a name that eventually extended to the entire parish.
