- Farmer’s Market - The Farmer’s Market is one part of Richmond’s oldest neighborhood, Shockoe Bottom, that was home to numerous sites of several Civil War era hospitals and prisons (some still standing, others lost to the past). This tour will share with you how these prisons and hospitals came to be, and what happened to those buildings during and after the war. Also learn about the overwhelming influx of soldiers and prisoners that found their way to Richmond during this tumultuous chapter of American history.

Richmond’s position as the Capital of the Confederacy during the Civil War attracted more than just lawmakers to the city. The numerous battles fought across the state and beyond led to a large influx of prisoners and injured soldiers who needed care. Many of these individuals ended up in Richmond, especially in the Shockoe Bottom area where this tour is set.
This tour will guide you to several significant locations in the neighborhood and will also recount the stories of some individuals linked to these sites.

Our 3rd Tour with RVA HH! And more to come! - We are a group of local friends who have embarked on taking tours and seeing the sites in and around RVA. This is the 3rd tour we've down with Hidden History. We've done Rail & Sails, a Haunted History tour and just did Richmond's Revolutionary Spirit. We largely thought we knew our stuff locally but we have learned a lot on each tour. We'll be back soon to do Uncivil Wards and more haunted tours. And they have more tours in the making so we'll be seeing them for years to come. Super nice people to work with. Thanks Chris & Beth!

Rails and Sails - We went on the Rails and Sails Tour and had a fantastic tour. Chris and Beth were great to work with in planning our private tour. They were so knowledgeable about the city of Richmond and answered all of our many questions as well.
