DAY 2 (MONDAY): ART NOUVEAU PEARLS IN RIGA
Riga Old Town Walking Tour - Established in 1201 by German bishop Albert, Riga is the largest of the three Baltic capitals. It is renowned for its remarkable variety of Art Nouveau architecture, rivaling that of Paris or Barcelona. During the guided walking tour, discover the most notable examples of this style on Alberta and Elizabeth streets. Later, explore the Old Town, visit Riga Castle, and see the Three Brothers houses, the oldest residences in the city.
Central Market (Centraltirgus) - At lunchtime, visit the Riga Central Market, one of Europe’s largest covered markets. Opened in 1930, it comprises five former Zeppelin airship hangars. Feel free to explore the market and sample smoked meats, pickled vegetables, Latvian rye bread, seasonal delicacies, and more.
Kemeri National Park - The afternoon offers an optional hiking tour to Kemeri National Park. This hike takes you to Kemeri, a former sulfur water and mud resort town. Once famous, it has lost its former glory, with only architectural monuments remaining to tell of its past splendor. Enjoy a 10 km hike around Kemeri’s historical resort, Black Alder Swamp, and the Great Swamp of Kemeri.
DAY 3 (TUESDAY): HILLY HIKE, CURVES OF THE GAUJA, AND A PAPER-MILL VILLAGE
Sigulda - Travel to Sigulda for a 17 km hike through the hills of Gauja National Park. This hike promises some of the most breathtaking views in Latvia, where the Gauja River valley winds between hills as far as the eye can see! Experience the beauty of nature and visit Krimulda Manor and Sigulda Medieval Castle.
Ligatne - In the late afternoon, explore the paper-mill village of Ligatne, which retains its 19th-century charm. During the walking tour of this delightful village, learn about the paper industry and life in the paper-mill community.
DAY 4 (WEDNESDAY): SANDSTONE CLIFFS AND A LAKE FORTRESS
Ligatnes Nature Trails - In the morning, embark on a 15 km hike along the Ligatne River. The area around Ligatne is rich with sandstone rocks, cliffs, and outcrops, which will surely impress with their grandeur and beauty! Enjoy a wild adventure along the Ligatne River and walk through the Ligatne Nature Trails, where you can observe various species of wild mammals native to Latvia.
Araisi Lake Dwelling Site - The afternoon is dedicated to the Araisi Archaeological Park, a reconstructed ancient settlement from the 9th-10th centuries located on an island in the middle of a lake. This is an ideal place to connect with Latvian pagan roots. Conclude the day in Cesis.
DAY 5 (THURSDAY): THE MEDIEVAL GEMSTONE CESIS
Cesis Medieval Castle - Cesis, the third oldest town in Latvia, is often referred to as a medieval gemstone. It draws visitors with its charming streets and the natural beauty of the Gauja National Park. The enchanting ruins of the Cesis Medieval Castle invite exploration and offer a chance to experience the medieval spirit by candlelight.
Cirulisi Nature Trail - Later, embark on a 15 km hike along the ancient Gauja River valley on Cirulisi Nature Trails. Visit Rucamavots, a spring known for its unique growling sound.
DAY 6 (FRIDAY): HIKE ALONG THE GAREZERI LAKES AND THE SEA
Lilaste - Spend the afternoon on a 14 km hike along the Garezeri Lakes and the Baltic Sea. Garezeri means Long Lakes, and this hike will reveal why. The lakes are surrounded by beautiful pine forests. The second part of the hike follows the beach, offering fine sand and a view of the natural, undeveloped coastline. Later, return to Riga and enjoy an optional farewell dinner at the restaurant Forests, celebrated for its seasonal dishes and contemporary Latvian cuisine.
DAY 7 (SATURDAY): DEPARTURE FROM RIGA
