Great guide - The food was good but Annette’s storytelling was great. I loved how she tied in her family history to each of the food stops. It made the tour so interesting!

Guna’s fantastic food tour of the Riga food markets - Had just over a two hour tour with Guna who was brilliant. Took the time to explain the Latvian food traditions in the hangars of the market. We sampled traditional Latvian fresh food (soup, fish, smoked chicken) etc and the local beverages. Really enjoyable tour.

Generally really good - Very good tour, a few minor niggles, but really informative and presenting a really candid perspective on the market and associated Latvian life.
The negatives: Our tour guide walked very quickly to the market, and through the market crowds. Not an issue for us, but two of the party were walking with sticks and they were frequently left behind, missing some of the chatting.
During our meal, during the dessert (the Latvian "bread soup") one of the party tried to clarify that it was called "bread soup" and not something else. (Not an impossible question given how noisy the market was, how seldom you hear of something called bread soup, and the language barrier.) I am not sure what our tour guide thought the person said, but she got really angry, said something about 'not here to play games' and stormed off from the table mid-meal for a few minutes. Nobody had any idea why or what the tour guide had taken offence to. When she came back, she carried on like nothing had happened.
The positives: you will try some genuine Latvian cuisine, from a range of pickled cabbages to Kvasse, Black Balsam, some amazing candy (Gojtina) and herring salad.
You will be introduced to a slice of life, Latvian style. We learned a lot, and we absolutely enjoyed it.
For the price paid, it was a good experience.

A Mixed Experience – Could Be Great With Improvements - The market itself was fascinating, and the food we tried was diverse and delicious. However, the guide left much to be desired. She seemed disengaged, treating the tour as a job to get through rather than an opportunity to share her passion for Riga and its vibrant market culture.
A previous reviewer mentioned being left behind because the guide walked too fast. That resonated with our experience—four of us were left scrambling to catch up. With such a large group, she didn’t project her voice well enough, and despite frequent complaints about not being able to hear her, she simply told us to move closer. It seems this is a recurring issue on her tours.
On the positive side, she was knowledgeable about the market and its history, but the rushed pace detracted from the experience. The two-hour duration felt insufficient for the amount of ground covered. Extending the tour to three hours could allow participants to truly savor the stalls and the food without feeling hurried.
One additional suggestion: it would be helpful if the booking process allowed vegetarians (or others with dietary preferences) to indicate this in advance. Addressing such needs last minute adds unnecessary stress.
In summary, the tour had potential, but improvements in pacing, guide engagement, and organization would make it much more enjoyable.

Tour cancelled with no notice!! - The guide from Riga Tours met our group & walked the 9 people signed up for tour to the central market. The tour had just begun & she took a phone call. Then she walked off. Never returned! Said nothing to us.
Some on the tour had booked with another company & got a notification that the tour was cancelled. I got nothing & am still waiting to hear back from Viator about my refund.
Very disappointing & odd

Book at your own risk - On the morning of the tour I received a message from the tour operator saying that the tour had to be rescheduled due to a “food technical problem”; they asked me if I could make it the following day instead. However I could not because I was flying out the next morning. Since I had already set aside time to explore the Central Market, I went on my own without the benefit of the tour. Lo and behold, the Central Market was open and operating as usual and no “food technical problem” was in evidence. I felt like I had been cheated. Book at your own risk.
