Rinchenpong - 6:15 AM - Depart from Bangalore by flight

A 4.5-hour drive will take us to Yangsum Farm in West Sikkim. The farm is situated near Rinchengpong, a small village in the hills of West Sikkim, at an altitude of 6,000 ft above sea level. Rabindranath Tagore spent a few days at this retreat in the 1920s. Rabindranath Smriti Van, the house where the poet stayed and admired the Himalayan views, is just 2 km from Rinchenpong bazaar.
6:30 PM - Check-in at Yangsum Farm. The farmhouse was originally built in 1833 and renovated in 1966.

Buddhist Monastery and Palatial ruins

Pemayangtse Monastery - We will drive to Pemayangtse Monastery, which will take about 90-100 minutes. It is the most significant monastery of the Nyingmapa order, built in the late seventeenth century by Lama Lhatsum Chenpo, one of the esteemed Lamas who performed the consecration ceremony of the first Chogyal (religious monarch) of Sikkim. The monastery contains numerous religious idols and other worship objects. Be sure to visit the top floor, which houses a wooden structure depicting the Maha Guru’s heavenly palace (Sang-tok-palri), a masterpiece created by the Late Dungzin Rimpoche.

Rabdentse Ruins - Rabdentse was the second capital of Sikkim, established in the late seventeenth century by the second Chogyal of Sikkim. It was abandoned towards the end of the eighteenth century due to threats from Nepal, leading to the capital being moved to Tumlong. The Rabdentse Palace now lies in ruins. We will trek about 2 km from the main road near Pemayangtse Monastery through a nature reserve to reach it. The reserve is home to 106 species of birds.
