Worth the trip, but the roads are bit of an adventure! - We did the zip line, horse back ride and mud baths/mineral pools. I really suggest you visit the cultural center. That was really fun and informative. Also the lunch was very tasty!

Monkeys! Plants! Waterfalls! - We had wonderful and very knowledgeable guide Edgar and an experienced driver Herman. Edgar knows a lot about plants and trees and was able to spot whitefaced monkeys for us. Herman was good at finding ways to bypass accidents. Edgar and Herman were very accommodating, we were moving at a convenient for us pace. Magnificent waterfall, interesting fumaroles, wonderful rainforest, unlike the other rainforests we had seen before. Nice lunch after the trip was a good finish.

All-things-Costa Rica! - Steven was a wonderful, charming and incredibly knowledgeable guide. Jose was a careful yet no-tarry-here driver. There were probably a hundred instances on our 3mile trek with Steven through rainforest, lava savannah, mud pots and boiling water, etc., that I would have missed if he hadn’t noticed and pointed it out:tapir, monkeys, bird, ants, and all types of Lora and fauna. I’m a 78 yo man with arthritis, and in our group of six was a 65yo facing knee replacement in June; he was so patient with us, very accommodating on a difficult trek (for me). His conversation in the van on the Journey to was respectful of the sightseeing we were doing on the way but very illuminating about culture, ecosystems, people and pursuits in CR. Just an amazing day.

From a group of 6…a little past middle-age! - Steven was an EXCELLENT guide, knowledgeable and (for Americans) very easy to understand. We saw Howler, white-faced and spider monkeys, Toucans, Magpie-jays, Red-headed woodpeckers, Manakins, Honeycreepers, lots of parakeets, and a long distance view of a sleeping tapir. ( us tourists thought it was a log!) Steven was able to use binoculars and an iPhone to take a close-up! He did that one several occasions, neat trick! Sorry being a little wordy, but I was truly impressed. Everything we saw was amazing! Just go slow and be patient, and you will see amazing things. And Jose’s driving was EXCELLENTE!

Nice and easy hike. - Nice and easy hike, and the waterfalls were cool. The trails were busy with people, which scared off wildlife, but did see a family of spider monkeys from afar. We had an introverted and quiet tour guide who only answered when we asked him questions, and he was on his phone quite often. It made the atmosphere awkward sometimes. But when we asked him questions, he was pretty informative and nice.

The guides from Viator were very... -
The guides from Viator were very knowledgeable and readily shared their knowledge of the area. I did expect to cover more ground during the tour. It was pretty slow walking and would have been nice if it included going to the top of the volcano. The guide was excellent and pointed our howler monkeys and spider monkeys in the tree tops. The howler monkeys make an impressive sound. We also got to see a bird mating dance which was quite interesting and apparently not often seen. How the forest operated and the roles of the many types of trees were discussed. Overall it was very informative and enjoyable.
