Highlights
  • The National Museum - We start our tour of mystic Riyadh by visiting the National Museum. The primary custodian of Saudi national heritage and culture, it is a place of learning and discovery that hosts a unique collection of artifacts and covers the whole history of the Arabian Peninsula right up to modern times.
  • Murabba Palace - After that, we head to the nearby Murrabba Palace that was the royal residence where King Abdulaziz hosted his court. The palace was named after its square 40 by 40-meter shape and is now one of the city’s main museums.

Adjacent to the palace, a modern building hosts a collection of King Abdulaziz’s personal items which we will tour briefly. These places illustrate the heart of the birth of the Saudi nation.

Additional Information

We commence our exploration of Riyadh with a visit to the National Museum, the principal preserver of Saudi’s cultural and historical legacy. Presently, it serves as an educational space that possesses an unparalleled collection of relics, covering the comprehensive history of the Arabian Peninsula until the contemporary period. Following this, our journey proceeds to the proximate Murrabba Palace that was once the royal abode where King Abdulaziz entertained his court. The edifice, named after its square design of 40 by 40 meters, now ranks as one of the city’s main museums. Beside the palace, a modern structure houses a collection of King Abdulaziz’s personal belongings, which we will have a quick tour of. These sites are integral to the genesis of the Saudi nation.

Nice but the driver was not a tour guide - The driver wasn’t really a tour guide, just a driver. Nice enough but didn’t add anything and didn’t know that much about Riyadh and its history. The museum was really nice but it would have been nicer with a professional guide.

Do Not Recommend, Better Off Taking an Uber - This overpriced tour is not a guided tour. It is a self-guided tour where you're expected to tour the museum independently. A driver simply picks you up and drops you off; you are better off taking an Uber. The tour company is also disorganized as they did not know the Murraba Palace was closed and only opens at 4 PM (we were dropped off at 10 AM at the museum). We requested to cut our tour short as we realized that this was not a guided tour and 1/2 of the attractions were closed. In summation, don't do this tour. Take an Uber for 1/10th of the price.
