Highlights
  • Porta San Sebastiano - Impressive southern gateway to the city of Rome. Porta San Sebastiano, part of the Aurelian Walls built around 275 AD, also marks the beginning of the historic Via Appia Antica. Be enchanted by its beauty and discover the numerous medieval graffiti that testify to the flow of pilgrims over the centuries.
  • Catacombs of St. Callixtus - THIS STOP IS INCLUDED ONLY IN THE 5-HOUR TOUR.
Visit the official burial complex of the Church of Rome. The largest underground cemetery in the city with corridors stretching about 20km. The Catacombs of St. Callixtus, a sacred site dating back to the second century BC, are named after Deacon Callixtus I. Here, more than 50 martyrs, 16 popes, and half a million Christians were buried.
  • Appian Way (Via Appia Antica) - Known to the Romans as Regina Viarum (the queen of roads), it is considered the greatest civil engineering work of the ancient world. You will be fascinated by the history of the Via Appia Antica. A history that began in the 4th century BC thanks to the censor Appius Claudius, known as The Blind, who had it built to facilitate the flow of Roman troops to the south. The initial stretch from Rome to Capua was later extended to reach Brindisi, the most important port of Ancient Rome.
  • Parco Della Caffarella - The Parco della Caffarella, now an integral part of the Appia Antica Regional Park, is one of the largest green areas not only in Rome but also in Europe. It is a treasure rich in history hidden among its paths and groves where you can spot remains of ancient constructions.
  • Ninfeo di Egeria - Be captivated by the charm of this sacred place that tells the love story between the nymph Egeria and the second King of Rome, Numa Pompilius. Upon learning of her beloved’s death, Egeria wept in sorrow, creating a spring.
  • Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella and Castrum Caetani - Appia Antica Archaeological Park - This majestic mausoleum is a pagan tomb dedicated to Cecilia Metella, dating back to the 1st century BC. Incorporated into the Castrum Caetani, it remains the best-preserved mausoleum on the Via Appia Antica. Here you can also appreciate the remains of the medieval house of the wealthy Caetani family and the church of San Nicola, of which only the perimeter walls remain.
  • Parco degli Acquedotti - Appia Antica Archaeological Park - THIS STOP IS INCLUDED ONLY IN THE 5-HOUR TOUR.
Lunch break is planned in the shade of the Claudian aqueduct. You can enjoy Italian specialties in the splendid setting of the park. In the afternoon, there will be a tasty aperitif instead of a lunch box.
  • Parco degli Acquedotti - Appia Antica Archaeological Park - We resume the tour on e-bike through this immense green area, crossed in ancient times and still visible today by the Via Latina, the oldest road in Rome. A crossroads of the ancient Roman water network, here you can admire the grandeur of Roman engineering through the remains of some aqueducts, some of which are surprisingly still in operation.
  • Circus of Maxentius - Located on the Via Appia Antica, the Circus of Maxentius represents the best example of a Roman circus that has come down to us. Be transported to the past surrounded by the remains of ancient Rome. The still visible spine once hosted the Agonale obelisk, moved in the Renaissance to the Fountain of the Four Rivers in Piazza Navona.
  • Baths of Caracalla - Built by the emperor of the same name, the Baths of Caracalla were for about a century the largest public baths ever constructed. Today, much of their structure is still preserved. A branch of the Aqua Marcia brought water to the baths through the Antoninian aqueduct. Small remains can be seen at Porta San Sebastiano.

Fantastic choice! What a treat - Riding along aqueducts and on the Appian way was spectacular. The history shared by Ricardo made this trip a memorable one! The e-bikes made riding up hill super easy and even more enjoyable.

Great way to see some Roman history right in the heart of Rome! - From something we as a family knows nothing about, Matthieu took us through a comprehensive tour of Roman history. Everything for us was perfect, pace, information, scenery plus a view of several 2,000+ year old structures which was quite incredible.

Great experience in Rome - The e-bike tour was fantastic. Ricardo was an excellent guide. We saw new parts of Rome and leaned so much about the aqueduct system. The Catacombs tour was fascinating. Even though the day was super hot, being on the bikes made it manageable.

Perfect way to get out into the country. - This was such a great choice for my family of four, with two teens. Nico was our guide and he was excellent! The fact that he has studied history and loves all of the stories made it more exciting to hear along the stops and he was able to answer all of our questions. We road outside of the city walls into the country, into the Vatican, past amazing aqua duct ruins, and it was the perfect break from the crowds. There were two other nice people with us so it was small and very manageable. We did this on our 2nd day, which worked for us- but there are pros and cons to when you go. Unless you bike all the time, you will be sore for a day. Loved this adventure, thank you!

A MUST-DO for any first-timer to Rome with some cycling ability. - Daniela was our guide and now she is a friend! She led the most wonderful, experiential tour you can imagine. She took am interest in our interests and answered all our questions. She also went above and beyond to make it accessible- even when a team member had a challenge with their cycle. Seriously the greatest thing we did on our Rome trip.

Follow the water! - We booked this tour on a whim but it turned out to be one of our best Rome experiences. Guide Valerio was friendly and funny as he shared the information about the area. It was my first time on an E-Bike but I got the hang of it fast and I may never go back :) The stop at the Catacombs was as sobering and somber as it should be. If you’re claustrophobic you might want to make sure your group is small as the corridors and chambers are quite narrow and small. Lunch was at a picturesque spot and our group almost “swam” in the water fountain because it was so cool on a very hot day.

Thank you Mattia and Star bike tours! - Or first time in Rome, and our first day, and we were running late and they so graciously waited. Mattia guided us along the ancient streets and’s he was very knowledgeable of the history and very engaging. Due to the heat he was also sure to stop frequently to allow us to freshen up in the fresh water the flows throughout Rome. The e-bikes were wonderful and easy to operate. There was a couple with a young son in our group and Mattia was sure to include him in the short talks so he felt engaged. I will say that riding through the urban area of Rome isn’t for the faint of heart and we were lead well. Highly recommended!

Group was too big resulting in slow progress - The group was very large and had only one guide. She tried her best but couldn’t keep the group together. We would pedal for 5 mins and then stop to regroup for 15 then repeat the process. The ride had several inexperienced people on bikes and one person hit a car (fortunately he was ok). This resulted in the whole group having to wait 45 mins while the accident was documented. The 4 hour tour lasted closer to 6 hours due to all the delays associated with such a large group.
