Highlights
  • Circus Maximus - An ideal place to start an Appian Way bike tour as it is easily accessible and avoids the need to cycle through the city to reach the Appian Way.
  • Aurelian Walls - These ancient Roman walls remain quite sturdy, and cycling past them offers a glimpse of the walls and the Roman gate.
  • Catacombs of Saint Callixtus - Visit the oldest site of Christian worship in Rome, where the first Christian community took root and buried their dead until the 3rd century…ALL UNDERGROUND!
  • Mausoleo di Cecilia Metella e Castrum Caetani - Parco Archeologico dell’Appia Antica - Take a water break in front of this ancient Roman mausoleum turned medieval castle.
  • Appian Way (Via Appia Antica) - This ancient Roman road is the easiest route out into the countryside from Rome.
  • Parco Regionale dell’Appia Antica - This park is filled with ancient Roman ruins: villas, aqueducts, and roads.

The amazing thing is that it’s just a stone’s throw from the city, not as far from civilization as it seems!

Enjoy a wide view over the park from a little hill.

  • Parco degli Acquedotti - Parco Archeologico dell’Appia Antica - Visit this park to see the remains of the Roman Aqueducts Claudius and Marcia, as well as the Renaissance aqueduct Felix.
  • Parco Della Caffarella - A beautiful city park that used to be farmland, now only used for grazing by a local sheep farmer.
  • Parco Di Tor Fiscale - Parco Archeologico dell’Appia Antica - Another park with aqueducts and even a medieval watchtower. Cycle through here and stop at the water fountain.

Get Away from the Rome Crowd - This experience took us out of the busy city and into the beauty of the Appian Way, quiet and uncrowded Rome. The catacombs were amazing. Richard was very knowledgeable and the picnic was delicious. The bikes made it an easy ride. Highly recommend, especially if you want the full experience of Rome.

Brilliant - We had an amazing tour guide, Laura. I hadn’t been on an electric bike before so she was really patient and supportive. I was a little scared but did not need to be. It was great! The Catacombs were fascinating and so cool down in the ground as it was 37C outside. Lunch was delicious. Unfortunately the heat was a bit too much for me and I had to get off the bike and ended up fainting. Laura was incredible during this disaster. She was professional, calm and handled it all perfectly. Thank you Laura for looking after me!! Highly recommend this tour.

Wonderful way to venture out of the city! - My girlfriend and I did this tour and it’s been one of our favorite Rome experiences. Our guide Laura was amazing. We had such a wonderful time and definitely recommend the private tour. A must do especially if you enjoy moderate physical activity while getting outside of the hustle of the city!

Rocky start redeemed by one of the best Rome experiences - The only reason this does not get rated is 5 is because we showed up 20 minutes early to the meeting place and no one was there. Based on some of the reviews, I think we were lucky because a guide showed up at our scheduled time but wasn't aware he had an appointment that day. He said he contracts with the company so it seems like there is a lot of confusion between the company, guests, and guides in their operation. I recommend the company proactively contact customers the day before to confirm and ensure a guide is present. Once we got that sorted, this was probably the best experience we've done in Rome after 3 trips. The entire bike ride through the Appian way, ancient wall, catacombs, and aqueduct was amazing. The views were breathtaking and the history all rolled up into a story to connect the dots. The picnic was also perfect after the long ride. The bikes have electronic batteries and large shocks making them perfect for the terrain and long ride by taking off some of the burden to the rider. It's still a journey and we got very hot towards the end so I recommend setting expectations if you're not used to outdoor activity how enjoyable that could be. Otherwise I would recommend to anyone wanting to see a whole different side of Rome and Roman history. Amazing!

Scam company don’t trust - This company is a scam. I booked a tour. They told me that my day was not available and tried to make me pick other dates. When I asked for a refund they kept telling me they were going to refund and after three weeks I had to get my credit card company involved. They stopped responding but thankfully credit card company refunded my money. Don’t trust them. I’m pretty sure they just take money and hope people will go away

Tour cancelled without any prior notification - and no refund provided - I wish I could tell you how the tour went but we never got to go. I booked this tour four months ahead of my trip to Rome. I got confirmation emails. My son and I traveled across the city to get to the meeting point early in the morning and no one was there. There was a bike shop with a gentleman on the phone - I assume(d) this was the spot (in the exact location they were supposed to be) - he yelled at me and kicked me out (I saw him do this to another person later). So I call the company. A woman tells me that the tour is cancelled. At first she says it was because the guide cancelled that morning. After further discussion she says it was because their computer systems were down. She then tries to convince us to go the next day instead - but we were leaving Rome the next day early in the morning so it wouldn't work. After further discussion she changes her story AGAIN and says that new ownership took over a couple of months ago and everything has been a mess since then. I have no idea which of these is true, but she promised I would be refunded. I have emailed twice and have yet to hear anything from them.
