Highlights
  • Porta San Sebastiano - Impressive southern gateway to the city of Rome. The Porta San Sebastiano, part of the Aurelian Walls built around 275 AD, also marks the beginning of the historic Via Appia Antica. Be enchanted by its beauty and discover the numerous medieval graffiti that testify to the flow of pilgrims over the centuries.

  • Appian Way (Via Appia Antica) - Uncover secrets hidden for centuries as you descend 40 feet through a Roman quarry. We’ll tell you a story that has remained untold for a long time. Silent yet fascinating galleries that once housed ancient Roman catacombs were later transformed into air-raid shelters during World War II; Here, we’ll taste a glass of Roman wine particularly appreciated by the ancient Romans, the so-called Mulsum, a honey wine.

  • Ninfeo di Egeria - Be captivated by the enchantment of this sacred place that tells the love story between the Nymph Egeria and the second King of Rome, Numa Pompilius. Upon learning of her beloved’s death, Egeria dissolved into tears, giving life to a spring.

  • Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella and Castrum Caetani - Archaeological Park of the Appian Way - This majestic mausoleum is a pagan tomb dedicated to Cecilia Metella, dating back to the 1st century BC. Incorporated into the Castrum Caetani, it remains the best-preserved mausoleum of the Via Appia Antica. Here you can also appreciate the remains of the medieval house of the wealthy Caetani family and the church of San Nicola, of which only the perimeter walls remain standing.

  • Regional Park of the Appian Way - In this park, nature, art, and history converge. Discover the epitome of Rome as you ride our professional electric bikes through the lush meadows and fascinating archaeological sites of the Appian Way.

  • Catacombs of Saint Callixtus - Visit the official burial complex of the Church of Rome. The largest underground cemetery in the city, with corridors reaching a length of about 20km. The Catacombs of St. Callixtus, a sacred place dating back to the second century BC, are named after the deacon Callistus I. Here, more than 50 martyrs, 16 popes, and half a million Christians found their final resting place.

Really fun - This was a great tour! I would recommend this tour to anyone that rides a bike WELL. You will be cycling through traffic and on bumpy cobblestones as well as rocky dirt paths. I will say that the only slight disappointment was that the description says a glass of wine is included, but we never stopped for wine.

Thoroughly enjoyed the tour. - Veronica was a wonderful guide and the tour was great. The bikes were good and no problems with operating them. A couple of mentions, it would be great if a bottle of water was provided. We brought ours so not an issue for us but the others didn't have them. The other mention is that the Viator description included wine but that was never offered. The others in the tour had booked on other sites so not certain what was promised to them. A great day otherwise.

Ricardo (Richard) - thank you for great tour! - Ricardo was our entertaining and attentive guide who confidently navigated us through Rome traffic on well maintained and easy to use e-bikes. Highlight was the ruins of the aqueducts in a an expansive grassy valley park only 8km from the City. Bicycles are the best way to see the Appian Way. We were fascinated and curious about the old rich villas and estates hidden behind gates and hedges along the cobbled stone road. Tour with Ricardo highly recommended.

Great tour, enjoyed riding the eBike! - The ebike tour was fun. Never having ridden an ebike before, I found it to be easy and fun, taking a lot of the work out of riding. The tour got a little messed up as there was a major marathon run on the same route as we started on. After a while the guide decided to do the tour backwards which got us on a different route and things went smoothly after that. It was interesting to see things outside of the hustle and bustle of Rome and it was very enjoyable.

Well, that was wonderfully different! - We saw a very different rural part of Rome, which we’d never have found otherwise. The e-bikes were brilliant and made the trip very enjoyable. The caves were fascinating, the Appian way was somewhere we’d love to explore further and the catacombs were extraordinary. Our guide was brilliant - very informative and helpful and I’d absolutely recommend this tour to anyone who wants a different experience in Rome.

Wonderful e-bike ride around Rome - Our guide was perfect, I can’t remember her name but the tour couldn’t have gone better. The trainee Victoria was amazing also. We got to see Rome in a unique way and exercise at the same time. 10/10 Would recommend!
