The one thing not... - The one thing not mentioned on the description was the ride through City Center Rome with all the people and cars. Our guide was considerate of our riding ability and careful, though.

To do absolutely. - Great, made to 4 friends, Reservation without problems, electric mountain bikes not bad at all, with pneumatic seatpost. Our Guide Alexandra introduced us to this Via Appaia by sharing her knowledge of Roman history, she kept the bikes during our visit to the catacombs of Callisto. A very nice break in our holiday in Rome.

Delightful tour and guide. - We had a gas riding through the streets of Rome and then through the Catacombs and way more. It was quite an adventure. Our guide was quirky, young and passionate about his job and his city. Learned history with a fun time.

Cycling Roman Roads - An amazing day spent cycling through the city and along the Appian way. Alessandra was an awesome guide, and riding felt safe despite the traffic. Wonderful to ride on cobblestones laid 2000 years ago, and learn a little along the way whilst enjoying another side to Rome

Sunshine, exercise, history, and beautiful views - My wife and adult son, and our friends and their adult son, went on this tour together. Our guide Emanuele did a very good job guiding us through Rome's city streets to the Circus Maximus where our tour began in earnest. He was very knowledgeable and shared many interesting tidbits along the ride. As an amateur fan of Roman history, it was an awesome experience to bike along a road that features in so many stories of old. Very highly recommended!

Not a family-friendly bike ride! Be prepared for a nerve-wracking and very bumpy ride. - The Appian Way and Aqueducts Bike Tour was an interesting way to see parts of Rome but it is NOT for families with children! Be forewarned that this is not a relaxing ride on a smooth bike path through a park. The first surprise was finding out that the Tiber Cycle Path next to office where you start is closed (by the city for the Jubilee) so we were forced to ride on the busy streets and sidewalks of downtown Rome to get to the Appian Way. When we were trying not to get hit by the taxis and buses, we were dodging the pedestrians who walk into the street without looking. I would never take a child on this tour. We are not wimpy, out-of-shape cyclists - it’s dangerous! At one point, we were stopped at a red light and an Italian woman was standing on the sidewalk next to me. She looked at our small group and asked (with a look of complete disbelief): “Is this a bike tour?!” My response was (only partially in jest): “Yes, a very scary bike tour that we hope to survive!” Bicycle Roma should tell customers about this when they book their tour - not when they arrive. I warned my sister who was going to Rome the following week and she asked Bicycle Roma if they could meet at the start of the Appian Way in order to avoid riding through the streets of Rome and they agreed. This option should be made available to everyone when they book. Second, once you get to the Appian Way, it’s very beautiful, but it’s a historical road made up of paving stones that make for very rough, uncomfortable riding. When the grooves between the pavers made riding too hazardous for our tires, we had to ride on a very narrow dirt path next to the street that wound around trees and had sharp turns - that wasn’t any more relaxing. The best part of the tour was after the catacombs when we were riding next to the aqueducts: it was smooth riding on a dirt path out in the countryside. Our guide was friendly and informative. It was an adventure, but be prepared for a nerve-racking and bumpy ride.
