The main floor is mostly devoted to classical antiquities (including a famous 320–30 AD mosaic of gladiators found on the Borghese estate at Torrenova, on the Via Casilina outside Rome, in 1834), and classical and neo-classical sculpture such as the Venus Victrix. Its decorative scheme includes a trompe l’oeil ceiling fresco in the first room, or Salone, by the Sicilian artist Mariano Rossi makes such good use of foreshortening that it appears almost three-dimensional.

Our guide was so... - Our guide was so passionate about the art present and the Galleria itself that it felt contagious. We were also a very small group as well which made it easy to interact, ask questions and navigate. The four of us were delighted.

Unforgettable Art - The Borghese is not to be missed! Though we were devastated that the second floor was closed for renovations and did not have time to go see the moved artworks at their temporary home, we adored the Bernini and Carravagio masterworks on the first floor and our guide did a wonderful job of bringing these works and artists to life. The works we did see and the gorgeous villa were unforgettable. The guide for a great job with the 90 minute first floor tour—We just were sad we didn’t get to see the whole collection (but we were warned in advance that this would be the case).

VIP Guided tour is excellent. - Frederica was excellent at giving us insight into the masterpieces found in this amazing gallery. She is passionate about art and enthusiastically welcomed and answered questions. The Gallery is beautiful and awe-inspiring. The park adjacent to the gallery is a calm respite.
My only caveat with this tour is that you are standing for a long time, as there is nowhere to sit while touring the first floor (The second floor was closed due to renovation in anticipation of the Jubilee next year.)

Well worth it! - My young adult children and I did this tour, and I highly recommend it. The tour was well attended, but it wasn't too large, and it was easy to hear the guide through the supplied headphones. Our guide was very pleasant and well informed. The museum has a phenomenal collection, and it is very helpful to have a guide. The tour is long, but it covered a lot of ground. I did not have any difficulty finding the guide and starting the tour on time, as some other reviewers have mentioned as an issue.

Excellent museum and guide - Although the second floor was closed, Matthia gave us an excellent tour of the Bernini statues and Caravaggio paintings on the first floor. The experience was much more curated and relaxed than the Vatican tour - in fact I’d recommend skipping the Vatican museums and visiting the Borghese Gallery instead.

Enjoyed what I could see - The museum and grounds were impressive, and the guide was quite knowledgeable and entertaining. I was disappointed that half of the exhibit was closed and would require visiting another site on another date to view it. Since I was leaving the next day I missed this opportunity. I would have appreciated knowing in advance that much of the museum was closed due to construction.

Full Price for Half of the Museum - The second floor of the museum was closed, and the tour company was aware of this when I made our reservation...seems a little underhanded to charge full price for half of the tour. The part we did see and our guide was excellent.
