Roman dishes tasting menu - Bocca della Verita - Located in Piazza Bocca della Verità , this ancient marble mask is one of Rome’s most iconic symbols. Placed in the pronaos of the Basilica of Santa Maria in Cosmedin in 1632, its name, ‘Mouth of Truth,’ dates back to 1485. According to a fascinating medieval legend, the mouth would bite the hands of liars. Jealous husbands would bring their wives to the monument, where the women had to declare their fidelity while placing their hands in the mouth.
- Terrazza del Gianicolo - From the Gianicolo terrace, you can enjoy one of the most stunning views of Rome’s historic center. The terrace features two large avenues lined with plane trees, meeting at Piazzale Garibaldi and continuing as a single road descending in hairpin turns towards the church of Sant’Onofrio. Since 1904, every day at noon, three soldiers fire a blank shot from a howitzer under the Belvedere del Gianicolo, a tradition dating back to Pius IX in 1846 to standardize time. Before moving to the Janiculum, the cannon was fired from Castel Sant’Angelo and then from Monte Mario.
- Appian Way (Via Appia Antica) - The Appian Way was designed in 312 BC by the censor Appio Claudio Cieco to quickly connect Rome to Capua for troop movements during the Second Samnite War (326-304 BC). The route was later extended to Brindisi to facilitate connections with Greece, the East, and Egypt for military, travel, and trade purposes. Known as the ‘queen of the streets,’ it was the most famous route of the Roman era.
- Terrazza del Pincio - The Pincio, once known as Colle dei Giardini, has been home to gardens since Roman times. Its modern name comes from the Gens Pinciana. Among the notable gardens were those of Lucullus, who first built terraced gardens here. In the 5th century AD, a magnificent imperial palace was constructed on this hill. The promenade dates from 1810 to 1908. Although the Napoleonic empire dissolved in 1814, work on the Pincio Hill continued under the restored papal government, directed by Valadier.
