Thanks for a fun and beautiful day - This was a very fun day. The staff started by making sure we had helmets that fit and the right sized bikes with the seats set correctly. The ride itself was a world away from the hustle and bustle of Rome. We stopped a number of times to learn about the history of the Appian Way. The staff was happy to take pictures of us on many parts of the ride. They also called ahead for a lunch reservation for a table overlooking the lake. It was enchanting. Such a gorgeous view. On the way back we saw an aqueduct and learned some more history. We were a bit sore but had a great time. Bus 660 is so convenient too, it drops you off right across the street. Thanks for a great day!

Top experience of our Italian holiday! - Private e-bike tour from Rome to Castel Gandolfo and back by bike (about 35mi) was a perfect balance of history, scenery and terrain variety. Emmanuel is a personable, fun and patient guide who truly shares with his guests adding to our experience (we met his mom, dog and friend!). His recommendation for lunch was one of the best meals of our trip! The ride on the Appian Way and via Francigena to Castel Gandolfo and back through the aqueduct park was more serene and authentic than we expected, as well as perfectly challenging for my family. I highly recommend this break from Roman congestion to the countryside on this route. Thank you Bicycle-e!

Book this tour now! - Amazing one of a kind experience! Via Appia Antica, riding through beautiful Marino and by Lake Albano, to the top of Castel Gandolfo, back down and through the Park of Aqueducts. Our guide, Emanuele, was knowledgeable, adventurous, and made it a perfect day!

Amazing day trip out of Rome away from crowds - I booked this tour because I wanted to bike to Castel Gandolfo but didn’t feel confident enough to do it myself. Emanuele (not sure if spelling right) knew the way well and stopped to point out interesting things we would have missed. My husband thought path was easy but if you’re not so great on a bike (like me) the beginning of the appian way can be challenging (where it’s very very bumpy). The restaurant we ate at in Castel Gondolfo was amazing and has a series of tunnels/chambers underground you can eat in. The countryside is amazing. This was our favorite thing we did in Rome. Only area for improvement - the ebikes themselves aren’t in great shape.

Fun ride - Wow what a trip. The e-bikes weren’t what I expected though. They only assist and it is quite a workout. But happy we did it

Great way to absorb history - It was a fun and adventurous day outside the stifling crowds of central Rome, but packed with history and anecdotes… everyone was relaxed and extremely friendly…we reached CastelGandolfo and had lunch in a very quirky restaurant with a labyrinth of cellars and interesting memorabilia.. my highlight of the day was riding through the area of the aqueducts.. Emanuel had a deep and passionate knowledge of the area, but most of all he was super friendly and helpful… thanks for one of the most memorable days in Rome.

An amazing way to see Rome's surroundings - big thanks to Emanuele! - We did the 8 hour bike tour from Appia Antica up to Castel Gandolfo and Lake Albano, which is one of the longest tours they offer. It was absolutely worth it, and an amazing day. Our guide Emanuele went above and beyond to make the experience special and smooth. It can definitely be a workout, but with the electric assist bikes, you can also make it much easier, so you choose how much you sweat (we went on a sunny day in early July, there was plenty of sweat). Even with the electrical assist, it requires some biking skills and physical ability, but it’s absolutely worth it!. What really made the trip special was Emanuele's guidance. At his suggestion, instead of waiting in line to get food at the overcrowded restaurants at the lake, we got a great local porcetta sandwich beforehand and brought it up to the lake with us. Since we didn't have to wait for food, in the ~hour we had at the lake, instead of waiting for service, instead we were able to rent a paddle boat (with Emanuele's help to expedite) and eat our sandwiches in the middle of the beautiful azure blue volcanic lake! An amazing experience. I also jumped in because the water is so clear and perfect. Since we made good time on the way up to Castel Gandolfo, on the way back we also went through the Aqueduct Park. It's even more beautiful than the Appia Antica! I'm so grateful to Emanuele for the experience, and I'm also grateful to Rome and to Italy for doing such a great job preserving their nature and their history. One thing to note is that our tour was on a Sunday and I think that helped reduce the number of cars we encountered.

Know What You’re Getting Into - A fun and physically exhausting day of biking. There were only four people in our group, and our guide Emanuelle was fantastic! We’re very glad we did this, but we didn’t quite know what we were getting into: 1) The ride is bumpy and strenuous, you have to stay very focused to make sure you don’t fall. We’re 39 and 49 years old, in good shape and bike regularly. This was not an easy ride for us. Significant portions were on roads. So unless you’re fairly seasoned and confident biker, this probably isn’t for you. 2) There were no bike bags, so be ready to have your backpack with essentials on your back. Bring water and sunscreen! 3) In retrospect, we would have preferred more stops along the trail, to read about the ruins and drink water. Felt rushed to get to the top. 4) We opted to ride back rather than take the train, but wish that we’d walked around and explored Castel Gandolfo instead and took the train. 5) The ride back was scarier than up, with mountain-bike-level trails, steep downhills and 2 miles on a very busy road that didn’t feel safe. Also everyone’s bikes had an issue on the way down (brakes, batteries, chains) - thankfully our guide was able to fix most of it. Overall, this was a fantastic way to unplug and forget all about everything. The scenery was stunning! Just wish we’d had more time to enjoy it and a bit less actual biking.
