Lovely day out from Rome. - Hadrian's villa and Villa de Este with its beautiful gardens and waterfalls was devine. The Tivoli gelato and pizza were excellent. Our guide was upbeat and mindful of the needs of his group. He stopped in the shade for discussions which made a difference in the heat.

Be prepared to keep moving - We would never have done this trip under our own steam and so were delighted to share time with a rather large group. However, the guide was very informative and we covered a lot in a short time. Perhaps that was one of the downsides. There was a definite feeling of being rushed through both Hadrian’s Villa and Villa d’Este. We would have like some additional free time to explore. Both are worth a visit. We were awestruck by both even though we have previously visited Pompeii and Forum. Bus was comfortable, visit to Tivoli for lunch good. Summing up, we we happy and tired at the end of the day. Warning: there is plenty of walking and steps to navigate. There is mobility support at Hadrian’s Villa and a lift at Villa D’este.

A great tour with a knowledgeable guide - Giuseppe was a lovely guide. We were lucky there weren't many people at Hadrian's Villa, so we got to appreciate that expansive area what felt like to ourselves. Giuseppe's magic book helped visualise how the Villa looked in the past. Tivoli is a beautiful town and we had a wonderful lunch (not with the tour). Villa d'Este is a beautiful mansion and the gardens and fountains are just outstanding. It was a great contrast to see how cool the gardens were compared to when we were at the Villa. A great tour with a knowledgeable guide. Highly recommend this day trip.

Well worth the day trip - This was a wonderful day tour. Could not have asked for better. Hadrians Villa was amazing and well worth the drive out to it. Villa d'Este left us speechless. Design commenced in the 16th century. Views back across Rome incredible. There were hundreds of fountains - absolutely spectacular.

Rushed, tour guide not very good, and bad lunch. - I have done many tours with Viator that I have really enjoyed. This is the first one that I have to give a qualified recommendation to. If there were an easy way to get to Hadrian's Villa and Villa d'Este from Rome without a tour, I would prefer them. I understand that both destinations are a lot to cover in a day, but it all felt a bit rushed. I feel like we didn't see as much as we could at Hadrian's Villa, and would have liked more time at Villa d'Este. I talked to fellow tour group members, and opinions were mixed. Some thought it was just right, but a lot felt like they wanted more time at each location. Our tour guide kept telling us to walk carefully on the uneven surfaces, but then moved at a pace that few of us could keep up with. She also told us everything at Hadrian's Villa was: "now here is a special building..." and "up next I will take you to a special building." At Villa d'Este, it was "now I will show you a special surprise.." and "next I will take you to a special surprise." I don't think the word "special" means what she thinks it means. The lunch provided, if you choose that option, at a restaurant, was not good. I would skip that option and find a better restaurant on my own. The restaurant was filled with tour groups, which is often a bad sign. Sorry Viator, but you can do better on this one.

Canceled us the day before due to overbooking - Was messaged the day before that our reservation was canceled due to overbooking. They asked if we could come another day, I said no and please refund credit card. Suddenly, we could keep our booking, but messages were confusing and we were trying to figure out what to do. I said ok, but the group was upset and feeling unwelcome, so I later canceled. They finally wrote back later the next day, long after the tour started, to say I would not be refunded. A huge mess that they caused and could've been avoided if they had first ASKED if we could change our tour date instead of going straight to telling us our tour was canceled and then changing their minds when I wanted my money back. Incredibly unprofessional and I will be contacting my bank when I return home.
