Bus tour to Pompeii from Rome - Excellent tour. Well-organized and great and clear info by our tour leader Samuele. My husband and I enjoyed the 4 hours we had to self-explore Pompeii archeological park. A note about the bus: it was very comfortable with enough legroom for my 6 ft 3 (193 cm) husband). Booking was easy and confirmation came through fast. I also ended up contacting Gray Line Rome with a question, and received a prompt response from Gian Marco. Excellent experience.

Pompeii bus tour - We took the bus tour via Naples and then onto Pompeii. I went with 2 under 10s. The coach trip is 3 hours (not including a 25 min pit srop) to Naples and then another 20 mins to Pompeii. We got to Pompeii at approx 12.15pm. Had a quick bite to eat before entering the site. We had to meet the tour guide at 3.45pm. I wad anxious this wouldn't be enough time to explore but we managed to see many things such as the amphitheatre and Casa de Aguila (not spelt correctly). There is no shade so with younger kids this was actually enough time. To fully explore the site I would suggest 2 days. I was going to get a tour guide inside the site but none were available and they wouldn't very charged €150. I just used the map!

Bus itinerary. Review I wish I could've read. - Bring long usb charging cords, there are ports available. Our particular bus even had wifi. I wish I had brought a sweater for the bus ride there. You can't eat on the bus. They have water for sale for 1 €. 0730 left Stopped at restrooms /Cafe from 0900-0930 Driving thru city of Naples. Guide spoke entire time driving on history of Naples. 1120 Stopped by naples coast line to take photos for 5 min. 1210 Dropped off everyone exploring on their own at with our tickets. (Other group of tourist stayed on to go to an hour pizza lunch, stop at a shell/jewelry factory, then Pompeii with a guided tour after) You can leave items you don't want to take with you into the ruins on the bus. We were able to explore for almost 4 hours if doing it on your own. Rent audio guides at Pompeii for 10 € each. Lots of missing audio. But it has a great map GPS feature that you need. Google maps Will not work inside. And you need to leave an ID as collateral. Get a map! Before you enter, it looks like a security guard desk, next to official gift shop. A few restaurants/fast-food vendors at entrance. Water fountains around inside ruins available to refill water bottles. Bargain with vendors outside ruin entrance. I purchased a Pompeii reconstructed book (20 €) outside at vendors and wish I had it before I went inside. 1600 Met tour guide 1630 left Pompeii 1755 stopped at same bar for bathrooms & snacks. 1810 left 1945 arrive back.

The structures of Pompeii - Our first memory is of arriving in the tourist square and getting a glimpse of the imposing walls of the ruins. Taking a guided tour is a must, whether booked beforehand or at the site. The guides are obviously knowledgable but we were disappointed I the lack of information about the missing contents of the structures. Photographs and written information would have been very helpful. Overall the experience was positive!

Medium - Negatives: 2 hours late on arrival in Rome, being that we were 2 hours waiting in the bus standing waiting for another group that came from Sorrento, when they could have delayed the time of departure from Pompeii and one person had benefited at least another 1 hour; no ebook about Pompeii (I already had other experiences that did not have a Guide and that the agencies sent an e-book for a person to fit in). Positive points: organized public transport and skip the line ticket to Pompeii.
