Outstanding experience! - Five stars for an amazing experience! Italia Tours knocked it out of the park. I was so impressed with how well-organized the tour was from start to finish—clear directions, excellent transportation, wonderful tour guide, and delicious food! Best pizza I ever ate! I highly recommend this tour. Seeing Pompeii and Naples was worth it!

Great way to do Pompeii in one day, by train - Guide was great, meal was great (albeit in Pompeii, not Naples!). Great to see Pompeii early and start at the less crowded side; by the end of the tour, it got crowded and seemed less fun. Naples section was ok, not as exciting.

Worth it! - To start Ciara was fabulous. She was polite, professional, thoughtful and knowledgeable. She navigated Pompeii like a pro avoiding crowds as possible given the holiday crowds. Second positive was the high speed train to minimize travel time and the thoughtful agent at the meeting point to guide to the correct train. Pompeii was mind boggling and the visit time was adequate. On the mediocre was the pizza in Pompeii before heading to Naples. I would have preferred eating in Naples but again because of the holiday Naples was like New York Time Square on New Years. In all, great guide and tour.

Must see day trip - Don't miss this day trip while you are visiting Rome. Antonio was an amazing guide and had colorful insights and deep knowledge. Having a native Pompeiian as a guide added to the tours value. You can spend days here. Antonio's narrative brought Pompeii to life. Lunch was excellent (don't worry, you will walk it off). The whole end-to-end process was seamless. The Rome representatives gave clear, easy to follow instructions and Antonio was at the Mermaid statue as expected.

Highly recommend this tour - Discover Pompeii and Naples by High-Speed Train from Rome tour. The high- speed train ride from Rome was wonderful and efficiently got us to our destination on time for our tour. Our guide Vincenzo was excellent and very knowledgeable and entertaining, and we thoroughly enjoyed our day that started at the ruins in Pompeii, followed by a great lunch that included different types of local pizza and fine wine. We ended tour in the afternoon with breathtaking views of Naples and the waterfront. Highly recommended.

Fantastic day in Pomoeii - Rosie was a fantastic tour guide who not only cared well for us but provided a ton of information, answered our questions and made the day fantastic!! She walked at a reasonable pace for us to keep up and was patient when we needed clarification on information that she gave. The train ride was seamless and Rosie made sure we understood which train were to go on.

Pompeii - Wonderful: Naples - Not Worth the Stop - Visiting Pompeii while we were in Rome was a "must do" day trip and it did not disappoint. The size of the site was a shock to both of us. There is so much to see. We spent a few hours at Pompeii and we felt we barely scratched the surface and wish we could have had more time there. After lunch we went to Naples and outside of the splendid view of the Bay of Naples from one of the higher hills, and a few of the historical buildings we saw, we wish we had spent that time at Pompeii. Pros: * Meet up at the Rome Termini station was easy. Just make sure you are there as the train leaves more or less on time. The trip down to Naples via train is the way to go. Meet up at Naples with our guide was straightforward and the tour bus to Pompeii was as expected. * Having the Pompeii tickets handled by the tour company made it easy, and we skipped the entrance line. * Having a guide who could share some of the information and factoids about the eruption event, the history of the excavation, and insight about the digs was excellent. There is a self-guided audio tour by the looks of it, but no idea how thorough it is. * Our guide took us to one area which is under excavation that we were able to see from above. Seeing the restoration work being done in real-time and the process behind it was very interesting. * Lunch was included and was an easy walk from the Pompeii entrance/exit. While it was only pizza it was still good and hit the spot. Wine/drinks included as well. Cons: * Start/end time is set so if you suddenly wanted to spend an extra 1-2 hrs in Pompeii you are unable to do it * After being in Rome and Florence for our trip, Naples was a letdown. Would have preferred to have been on a tour just focused on Pompeii (these are offered) and skipped time in Naples. * Even though we were there in October there are crowds in Pompeii. So the known fresco/mosaic highlights you want to see tend to have a line to access those houses. I think that is why we skipped a few of them. Be prepared to wait in some areas. (Cannot imagine what the crowds are like in the summer)

Not a tour for Older Adults - While I highly recommend a visit to Pompeii as it is an unusual and intriguing place to visit I do not recommend this tour for older people who cannot keep up to the walking pace of a fit, albeit knowledgeable and personable, guide. I spent most of the time at Pompeii trying to catch up to the guide and not having time to really look at the excellent things she was pointing out. The audio kept cutting out because she and the lead participants were so far ahead of those of us at the rear that we only got buzzing in our ears until we ran to catch up. At one point we had completely lost sight of her and we had to use a side path to pass other participants. The side path ended with a need to just off a stone that was a couple of feet high or retrace our steps and chance permanently losing contact with the guide .. something my old knees didn't like very much. The guide had no idea this had happened as she was too far ahead. I had no energy left to get through the afternoon of touring Naples even though the lunch was excellent and provided a good rest. If you do take the tour I strongly recommend that you visit the meeting spot before the day of the tour, especially if you will be entering the terminal from the Via Giovanni side of the tracks. It is not easy to navigate from there if you don't know that you can simply find the mall entrance and walk across to the other side. When I contacted the agency after the tour to provide the feedback about how difficult it was to find the meeting spot I essentially got the response that the directions are good enough. If you do go, DO NOT follow google maps as the mapping system has no idea how to direct you from via Giovanni to via Marsala side of the tracks where you need to be. Just find the mall door (rather than going in any door as italia tours tells you you can and walk across to the other side . From the via Marsala side of the tracks it is easy to find the shopping area facing track 1 and the Caffe where you meet.
