Highlights
  • Colosseum - Explore the Colosseum, one of the grandest structures of the ancient world, where Romans once gathered to witness gladiator contests, wild beast battles, and, as legend has it, naval battles. Learn how this colossal stone amphitheater, which could hold around 60,000 spectators, was constructed in just 8 years. Your guide will share intriguing tales about its design and construction, the political advantages, the fighters, and the eventual cessation of the games held there.
  • Roman Forum - At the Roman Forum, your guide will animate the mythology, popular festivities of the era, and the deities of ancient Rome, which are mirrored in today’s astrological signs. Discover how the pagan festival Saturnalia influenced the celebration of Christmas on December 25th. Hear the story of the Lapis Niger (Latin for ‘black stone’), the oldest known Latin inscription in the world, located at the base of a column in the Forum.

Uncover the Temple of the Vestal Virgins, where they served for 30 years under various emperors and were almost revered as goddesses. Their primary duty was to keep the sacred fire of Vesta burning, symbolizing the heart of Rome. According to legend, as long as this flame burned, Rome would thrive and be victorious.

  • Arch of Constantine - Take in the view of Rome’s most significant Triumphal Arch, dedicated to the renowned Emperor Constantine.

This Arch marks a pivotal moment in Roman history and art, signifying the rise of Christianity and the decline of the Roman Empire.

  • Tempio di Vesta - The Temple of Vesta (Latin: Aedes Vestae; Italian: Tempio di Vesta) is an ancient structure in Rome, Italy, situated in the Roman Forum near the Regia and the House of the Vestal Virgins. The temple is notable for its circular design. Since Vesta’s worship began in private homes, the architecture reflects this history. The existing temple features Greek architecture with Corinthian columns, marble, and a central cella. The remaining structure suggests there were twenty Corinthian columns on a podium fifteen meters in diameter. The roof likely had a vent at the top to release smoke.
  • Piazza del Colosseo - Stroll along this Piazza to access the Colosseum and the Roman Forum.

Nothing has been added since the Roman Empire, so what you see is essentially the same view the Romans had in the past.

  • Foro di Cesare - The Forum of Caesar (Latin: Forum Iulium) is part of the Imperial Forums in Rome and was the first forum of this complex to be constructed.

Construction began in 54 BC and was completed in 29 BC by Augustus. The Forum of Caesar underwent renovations during Trajan’s time and after the fire of 283 AD.

Julius Caesar spent vast sums of money from the Gallic campaign (60 million sesterces according to Cicero, 100 million according to Suetonius) to purchase land, expropriate private property, and demolish buildings in the area. He also relocated the Curia.

Julius Caesar instructed Cicero to buy land for the forum’s construction. Roman law was so powerful that even emperors could not override contracts.

  • Via dei Fori Imperiali - Enjoy the view of the famous Via dei Fori Imperiali, designed during Mussolini’s regime.

Great tour with the family! - Chiara was super nice and informative. We learned a lot about the Colosseum and history that we never knew of! I don't know if families with little kids would enjoy it as much but my kids are 14 and 11. Would definitely recommend!

When in Rome! - What a wonderful morning with our excellent guide! She was well informed and gave us just the right amount of history and some humor too! In spite of the temperatures being so high she kept us in the shade as much as possible. Would highly recommend this tour!

Guide was great, but return drop off was NOT included. - The transport to the site was something out of the fast and the furious. It was crazy fast, but the driver was excellent and in control the whole time. Our tour guide was wonderful. She was very knowledgeable and flexible with the content we wanted to see and what we were not interested in. The only downside was there is no transport back to your hotel. So the extra price you pay is only for pick up from your hotel to the tour site. The amount charged should include both.

I wish I had Carla from LivTours!! - GianLuca was OK but I remember having a tour in 2018 and got way more information about the Colosseum. I also went on an E bike tour and got a lot more information about the Colosseum than our tour guide gave us. It was okay. I had a far better tour guide in Pompeii with LivTours.
