Highlights
  • St. Peter’s Square - Your guide meets you just outside the entrance to St. Peter’s Square and whisks you past the crowds for your trip to the grand Renaissance-era elegance of the basilica. An elevator carries you to the dome’s first terrace, where you’re surrounded by its beautiful artwork, and then 320 steps lead you up to one of the best views you can get of the city of Rome—from the square below you all the way across the Tiber.
  • St. Peter’s Basilica - Next, it’s time for a journey through the basilica itself as your guide shows you the grandeur that defines one of the holiest sites in the Catholic world. Admire the exquisite detail of the baldachin designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, standing amid the space designed by Michelangelo, and then visit the famous bronze statue of St. Peter with the keys to heaven in his hand. Another special experience is waiting for you beneath the basilica as your guide gives you a rare look at the crypts of the Vatican grotto. With more than 100 tombs holding popes, Catholic monarchs, and famous figures, the crypts let you look back through almost 2,000 years of the church’s history before you part ways with your guide at the tour’s end.

Excellent early-morning Basilica tour! - This early morning tour was great! Our tour guide Sev was very engaging and easy to listen to with a calm voice. He provided interesting information while walking to St Peter’s square and waiting in line for our security check. The dome climb wasn’t too hard (maybe 10 mins) after the elevator ride and we had plenty of time to look around and take pictures at the top and even visit the gift shop! It was a little busy at the top but manageable to move around. When we came back down into the Basilica it was starting to get busy, but we were able to see all the main highlights with our tour guide. We opted to stay a little longer after the tour ended. Would highly recommend this tour!

A wonderful city break - My four days in Rome were full of wow moments. The trip was a 60th birthday present chosen by my daughter because I had never been in Italy and I love history and old things! We spent hours in the coliseum, wandered around the forum area, took the glass elevator to the top of the immense monument to the king who united Italy ( can’t remember its name, sorry) Got up at the crack of dawn to make a 7am Basilica tour. Our hotel was a fifteen minute bus ride from the centre so we pre-ordered a taxi to get us there on time. the tour was excellent and lasted three hours and was lead by a truly wonderful guide named Jaber. His knowledge and passion for the subject was amazing. I highly recommend this early morning tour. When we finished at 10am there were massive queues all round the square. It is very easy to walk around Rome and find places of interest. The restaurants are wonderful, food delicious and all the staff we encountered were lovely. Our hotel, the Caravella may not look great from outside and is set back from a very busy main road but it was clean, very comfortable and the staff were friendly and always ready to help. Also excellent double glazing cut out most of the traffic noise and good air conditioning kept us cool. The bed was a dream at the end of a days walking. Can’t wait to visit Rome again. Best birthday present ever!

Dome climb for a wonderful view early in the morning, plenty of time for St. Peter's Basilica. Wonderful tour guide! - Easy to find the meeting spot (can grab a coffee/pastries while waiting). Very organized. We were given ear pieces and little portable radios so we could hear our guide. He was great and informational. The security line was a bit longer than usual that morning, but he continued to tell us about little facts while we were in line and what to expect, with some good humor! I don't know why I can't recall his name! The dome climb was a test on the legs/knees, but it's now done and off my bucketlist! It's definitely an experience, but with our family of 8, we did it together. We got plenty of time to explore in St. Peter's Basilica as well before going down to the papal crypt. Great tour and having a guide taught us so much more! He even gave us little tips for what to look for when visiting the Vatican Museums.

Maria Grazie is the best guide ever! - The best thing about our tour was our guide Maria Grazie. Her knowledge of Roman and Vatican history is incredible and she made the time we had to wait in line so interesting that it made the wait much easier. Overall the tour was wonderful if you are interested in Catholic history and the popes. The only improvement I see is that for the price I paid there should be more transparency about starting with over a 1 hour wait to get started. If I was older or had any issue with my feet or legs or the sun that extra one hour wait would have been very difficult. I know the wait is not always that long but again telling people that it is possible would be helpful so they are more prepared. Also maybe a little more time to wait for the women’s bathroom before the climb your the dome would have been helpful.

Great experience, despite the long waits - Very informative guide, and well paced tour. Be forewarned that there aren't any "skip the line" options at St Peter's Basilica - everyone must go through security, and also wait for elevators for the dome. Only 1 elevator was operational, slowing everything down, but the guide filled the time by telling us details about the history, etc. Steps were a challenge, but views are worth it.
